Air Quality Index

The Air Quality Index (AQI), shown below, is used to report daily air quality. It tells how clean or polluted the air is. Meteorologists use the AQI to forecast the air quality on a day-to-day basis. In the Birmingham area, ozone is forecasted from April 15th to October 15th and particle pollution (PM2.5) is forecasted year-round.
