PinPal is an online dating service that takes the hottest social network today (Pinterest) and combines it with our secret algorithm to connect like-minded Pinterest users for no-strings attached dates. Everyone talks about relationships in social media – we actually make them physical.
Influence is a big word in social media. One of my mentors, Joe Fernandez, has proven this with Klout. We see the value in using a Klout score to show really popular people, and we take that and blend into our formula to make sure potential dates are right for each other, even before we see their pictures.
That’s a secret. But, for the layman, we take publicly available information on Twitter, Facebook and Klout, and then loop further into the API of these networks, to find the friends of those we’re publicly exploring. That allows us to offer even more casual dating choices and Pins for our users. We then drop these people into private Pinterest boards and let nature do the rest (well, nature and the magic of our PinPal Match Engine™).
Let us ask you a question – is your privacy safe online anyway? We don’t think it is, as much as we’d like it to be. So, to answer the question of privacy, you have as much privacy on PinPal as you do elsewhere online – we think that’s the fairest way to go.
Because Klout is the number one resource on the web for intelligence about people and how they make others do things. Which is perfect for our goals – when you Pin someone, the ultimate goal is to have them meet you. That takes influence (think Jedi mind trick), and Klout allows us to define who are the most likely users to meet these goals. It’s how we’ll be successful, and another reason why you need a Klout score of at least 40 to use us.
As safe as any online dating service, with the added security that this is all happening with social media, so if something goes wrong you can let people know about it. That’s pretty powerful stuff right there!
We’re launching in beta so our servers don’t crash. We’ve already debuted in San Francisco and New York to a limited set of about 3,000 members.
