The Loop: Wii-like Motion Sensitive TV Remote Controller
- November 9th, 2006 | Remote Control
We’ve been fairly busy at TVNinja in the remote control department with coverage of everything from giant controllers to universal controllers. But now we’ve come across something that we know you’re going to love.
It’s called the Loop, and as you can see, it’s pretty different looking. Instead of a traditional candybar design, the Loop is more like a donut. And rather that being covered in the usual smorgasbord of buttons to select channels, change the sound level or adjust settings, the Loop is eerily bare.
So what sets this controller apart from all the rest? Just like the new Nintendo Wii controller, the Loop has built-in motion sensors that can detect what you are pointing at. This allows you to easily pick a movie or TV show simply by pointing at it on the TV menu, then clicking it. It’s extremely intuitive (just like using your PC mouse) and really makes you wonder how long the old school controllers will last.
The company behind the Loop, Hillcrest Labs from Rockville MD, say that multiple large corporations are in talks with the right now with regards licensing the technology for product launches in 2007. As the pace of convergence between the internet, television and commerce picks up, an intuitive device like the Loop will become central to making consumption of content and products easier for the consumer.
Keep an eye out for it next year. We’ll certainly keep you posted.
