About

I’ve got more missions in life than I can keep track of.  From time to time, I can’t help but share.  As cooking and eating are my most consistent hobbies, culinary adventures tend to dominate this site, hence the pseudonym.  I’ve got some expertise in the food arena, but no official training.  My cooking/eating know-how is also informed by several years in a soup kitchen cooking weekly vegetarian/vegan meals from scratch (from salvaged food, no less).  My compulsion to seek out “quality” and sometimes “quantity” makes me an especially discerning (and sometimes contentious) consumer. Nonetheless, expect errors, omissions, and misinformation and when you see them, bring it to my attention.  I’ll appreciate it.  And SPEAK UP. I’d rather host dialogues than monologues.  About restaurants, markets, products, etc: I want the good stuff to get fame and I want the bad stuff to improve or get ta steppin. Overall, I hope that some of what I go through in life benefits others, even though it may not all be pretty, proud, or 100% scrupulous.

Keep the faith,

knowing how much you like good food and a good bargain, head over to “greek 4 u” on patterson (at pump). hubs and i ate there last night and got spaghetti with side salad ($6), avgolemeno soup cup ($2), tiropita ($3) and were quite full between the two of us. we also took home lots of takeout baklava…very good (better than the kind i get at my favorite greek bakery in astoria, queens).

Our 16 week wine program is now in it’s 3rd week and we’re already talking about adding another program in the summer. You can still take advantage of Sommelier Carol Colby’s great classes at a very palatable drop in rate! Go to www.miseenplaceshockoe.com for the weekly wine regions we’ll be covering…and tasting!

Jason, thanks for the Twitpic! I’ll send you a press release soon for Ettamae’s Cafe. We’re very excited and hoping to be open first week in June – but that is not confirmed. I remember how influential your blog was from when I managed the Byrd House Market. Thank you for all you do for Richmond restaurants, markets, and of course, the foodies. I’m on Facebook as is the cafe if you need to reach me.

    Cheers spacer
