About the Program

The mission of the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology (GSO) is to serve the total visual health care needs of the people through public and professional education, membership services, and legislative advocacy. As part of GSO's continuing education curriculum, each year it hosts two meetings that offer ophthalmologists continuing medical education (CME) opportunities. The Annual Meeting occurs in the summer and spans three days (Saturday, Sunday, & Monday), offering professional development and social opportunities with colleagues. This year, the Annual Meeting brings you the same great program, on a new date and at a new place!

Educational Objectives

After attending this meeting, participants should be able to:

  • Initiate treatment for viral retinitis
  • Identify typical characteristics of intraocular lymphoma
  • Recognize various entities of posterior uveitis
  • Identify multiple mechanisms for angle closure
  • Understand the risks and benefits of trabeculoplasty
  • Understand the impact of glaucoma on patient self-reported function
  • Understand specific advantages of glued IOLs
  • Identify common corneal problems that can affect cataract surgery

 Continuing Medical Education (CME)

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Elements of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association and the Georgia Society of Ophthalmology. The Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Assocation is accredited by the Medical Assocation of Georgia to offer continuing medical education to physicians.

The Georgia Society of Ophthalmology and the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Assocation designates this educational activity for a maximum of 8.25 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This course is designed for the benefit to the public and the profession and aims to:

  • Establish and maintain high standards for patient care in ophthalmology, and provide physicians with the means to continually access and improve their ability to meet these standards;
  • Ensure that physicians are being assessed by reliable and valid measures to continually improve patient care; and
  • Communicate information  about physicians' ongoing participation that is understandable, credible, and relevant to the patients' and the public's needs.

The goal of MOC is to continually set the standards of excellence in the quality of ophthalmic care by focusing on the above six general competencies. The American Board of Ophthalmology also recognizes a seventh competency in surgical skills. The American Board of Ophthalmology's MOC process is the only maintenance of certification process for eye care specialists officially recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.
