What is ProductCamp?

CLICK HERE for a recent podcast where Michael Jones and Larry McKeogh talk about ProductCamp.

In the spirit of BarCamp, ProductCamp is a collaborative, user organized unconference, focused on Product Management and Marketing topics. At ProductCamp there are no “attendees,” since everyone participates in some manner: presenting, leading a roundtable discussion, helping with logistics, securing sponsorship, setting up wifi, or volunteering.  ProductCamp is a great opportunity for you to learn from, teach to, and network with professionals involved in the Product Management, Marketing, and Development process!  From the RockyMountainProductCamp experience, it is understood that everyone has something they can teach and everyone has something that they can learn.

This is the first year running a product camp in the rocky mountain region and we need you to help us make it a success!

Rocky Mountain Product Camp and You…

RockyMountainProductCamp events are about Product Management but are open to all.  For the most part, the events are free to attend thanks to our wonderful sponsors. What is expected of you, if you join the community and attend the events, is to participate.  There are no spectators, no one will be putting on a workshop, session, or event for you, but lots of people will come together for learning, networking and having fun with you.  Got something to help others understand and use?  Offer to lead a RockyMountainProductCamp session. Skilled and semi-skilled folks are needed for the behind-the-scenes work of the events and organizations, so volunteer.

What to expect?

ProductCamp will be a day long event held at a centrally located venue on the front range so that people can participate from Ft. Collins just as easily as those from Colorado Springs.  As people arrive they will check-in and be given dots to indicate their votes on sessions for the day.  Once that is settled, they may move to another area where light breakfast foods and most importantly, COFFEE, will be available.  The time can also be spent catching up with colleagues and making new ones!  There will also be people asking you to help setup a conference room, or presentation area for the days sessions.  This will be your first opportunity to help make the event a success.

Next we’ll head into the meat of the day.  First we’ll kick off the learning sessions by a presentation by a keynote speaker.  Next everyone will break off and attend whichever sessions they are most interested in.  These sessions are highly interactive and we believe the more interactive the better!  Share your experiences, you thoughts and your ideas when appropriate so that everyone can learn from them.

At some point, we’ll break for lunch.  RMPCamp will bring in lunch thanks to our sponsors.  This will also be yet another time for you to mingle with people you’ve never met, and share ideas about the morning sessions.

After lunch we’ll do a few more sessions before finishing the day.  In closing we’ll ask for your input on how to make RMPCamp2011 a better success.  We’ll also ask for volunteers to stay and reorganize the facility back to how we found it,  pick up trash, and pack-up items used through out the day, etc.

The unrules of ProductCamp

  • Rule #1: You do talk about ProductCamp.
  • Rule #2: You do blog about ProductCamp.
  • Rule #3: If you want to present, you submit your topic before the camp date and it must receive enough votes by attendees to allow it to be presented.
  • Rule #4: As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.
  • Rule #5: No pre-scheduled presentations (other than our keynote), no tourists.
  • Rule #6: Presentations will go on as long as they have to or until they run into another presentation slot.
  • Rule #7: If this is your first time at ProductCamp, you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don’t really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)
