This morning at the State Sports Centre in Sydney the International development level Sixes competed in their team event. Three states fielded full teams, with Team Victoria taking the title by a narrow margin over Team New South Wales. Western Australia placed third, trailing by nearly eight points.
The Victorian team, featuring gymnasts from Waverley Gymnastics Centre and MLC Gymnastics Club used their combined strength to top the team totals on both beam and floor. These results were helped by performances like that of Talia Folino, who finished the floor rotation ranked second on that event with her very high and consistently landed tumbling. Logan Sharrock also delivered a steady and pretty set on beam routine to rank fifth and Nikita Hartley Marschner showed off her stunning lines there too for a fourth-place finish. Sharrock also ranked third on beam with a terrific handspring vault, while Harley Marschner ranked fourth on bars, her best event, finishing out a routine with only small rhythm issues.
The second-place New South Wales team took the top team score on the bars event. Their star performer on this event was Cassidy Ercole who showed a very natural swing, hit handstands and confident rhythm. Her routine was a standout- only marred by a small step on her dismount. The Western Australian team’s best performances of the day were produced on vault, where they topped the team rankings. Cerys Bell-Bedlow’s 15.150 vault certainly helped there, as did Lily Gresele’s clean handspring vault.
There were some standout individual performances too. For those star performers standing out in the crowd was all about earning big execution scores in compulsory routines. A select few managed to do just that. Little Emi Watterson of Queensland finished the team meet ranked top of the individuals. This was helped significantly by a beautiful, super-clean bars set that earned her an 8.850 execution score and a lovely, elegant performance on floor. Talia Folino of Victoria finished the team meet tied for the second highest AA score, ranking second on floor (E 8.775) and third on bars (E 8.200). Fiona Wallace of New South Wales tied Folino for second at the end of the session after topping the floor scores. Her 14.600 on floor was achieved with a massive 9.00 execution score, where she showed excellent form and splits in her leap series. The top vaulter, and the top E score of the day went to Western Australia’s Cerys Bell-Bedlow, whose super-clean handspring vault earned her an E score of 9.150. Hannah Tam of New South Wales was the top beamer of the day after an assured and pretty routine.
A little visiting performer from New Zealand, Charleis Kingston White showed some lovely form, especially on beam. She unofficially ranked second on vault with a beautifully executed handspring.
