¡Bienvenidos!
You have come to the right place if you want to learn more about the many adventures of Pepe Sullivan, Chihuahua extraordinaire and star of the soon-to-be-released novel, Dial C for Chihuahua.
The chroniclers of my adventures, Curt Colbert and Waverly Fitzgerald, have a tendency to believe I am a fictional character, but they are sadly deluded. Would they deny the existence of Santa Claus? I think not!

Our favorite Chihuahua isn’t even a Chihuahua. It’s Skippyjon Jones, the Siamese kitten who thinks he’s a Chihuahua. We love this clever series of books by Judy Schachner and there’s a funny story about how Skippy is actually the antecedent of our Pepe. It turns out Curt was asked by a librarian to read to children at a local library in 2003 and he read the Skippyjon Jones books. It seems the character of Skippyjon Jones entered his imagination and emerged many years later when he began writing a book about a talking Chihuahua named Pepe who also speaks some Spanish and has the same wild imagination as Skippyjon Jones.
After discovering the Obsessive Chihuahua Disorder web site, we learned that we have this serious addiction. And Nikki, who lives with four Chihuahuas named Chico, Manny, Bebe and Monte, is happy to supply the products we need to pander to our appetite.
We love the work of Krista Brooks of RetroPets ® who was one of our earliest supporters, allowing us to use her art work for our web site long before we had a book contract. She creates portraits of pets that look like old-fashioned ads. Our favorites are the Chihuahuas, especially Head Honcho, which looks so much like Pepe. Cruise her web site to find your cat or dog. And if you can’t find your pet, you can enter her ongoing photo contest to have her create a work of “arf” to feature your pet.
The amazing Jessica Amanda Salmonson has created an fabulously comprehensive array of pages about Chihuahuas under the heading of Empire of the Chihuahuas.
There are pages on the true tales of Chihuahuas, celebrities and their Chihuahuas, rescued Chihuahuas, Chihuahuas in movies, a fascinating survey of dogs depicted in petroglyphs and pictographs from the American West showing native dogs which may be the ancestors of the Chihuahua, and a comprehensive library of Chihuahua books–over 100 pages of books, including books in Russian and Japanese. I found out that one of my favorite historical novelists, Rosemary Sutcliff, wrote a book about Chihuahuas. But I did not find Skippyjon Jones. Maybe I missed it.
We agree with JAS when she writes: “Chihuahuas will one day, if they have not already, conquer the entirety of Planet Earth. They will do so with bravery, comedy and cuteness, not to mention by means of a dash of foolhardiness and collusion from people who adore them.”
