SecureComm 2011 7th International ICST Conference on Security and Privacy in Communications Network

Welcome to SecureComm 2011!

SecureComm’11 seeks high-quality research contributions in the form of well developed papers. Topics of interest encompass research advances in ALL areas of secure communications and networking. Topics in other areas (e.g., formal methods, database security, secure software, applied cryptography) will also be considered if a clear connection to private or secure communications/networking is demonstrated.

The aim of SecureComm is to bring together security and privacy experts in academia, industry and government as well as practitioners, standards developers and policy makers, in order to engage in a discussion about common goals and explore important research directions in the field. SecureComm also serves as a venue for learning about state-of-the-art in security and privacy research, giving attendees the opportunity to network with experts in the field.

Welcome Note by the General and Programme Committee Chairs

Welcome to the 7th congress on Security and Privacy in Communication Networks. Many of you who attended the successful SecureComm 2010 congress in the vibrant City of Singapore last year were enquiring about the 7th edition of this conference. It is reassuring to see that in seven years, this event has established itself as the key annual conference in the domain of Network Security and Privacy, with a fast growing scientific and professional community.

We are delighted to announce two prestigious keynote speakers: "Into the danger zone - the cyber threat" will be presented by Dr Alastair MacWillson, the Global Managing Partner Security Practice, Accenture complemented by a keynote talk by Professor Yvo Desmedt, the Deputy Director of Cryptography Research Centre University College London on: "Why Security Engineering Fails".

This year we received 95 valid submissions, with authors from 27 countries and areas. The review process was conducted in a double-blind manner, and most papers were reviewed by four program committee members. We have accepted 23 full papers, resulting in an acceptance rate of 24%. We have also accepted 11 short papers and 2 demonstrations that will be presented in a joint session on the first evening of the conference. These papers will appear in the Springer proceedings to be published in early 2012.

We would like to thank the program committee for the great effort in the paper selection. We are also very grateful to all other SecureComm 2011 organizers and the SecureComm Steering Committee.

We look forward to welcoming you all to London in 2011!
