Preparations are underway for the fifth Between the Lines, a program that brings students from the US and other countries together for creative writing and cultural exchange. For the first time, there will be two sessions: BTL Russia (June 30-July 14) and BTL Arabic (July 13-27).

In 2009, the International Writing Program and the Chinese Writers' Association began a pilot exchange project, the Life of Discovery. The project’s aim is to bring together writers and artists from the United States and from the minority ethnic communities in the western regions of the People's Republic of China.

As the IWP’s distance learning initiative, the DLCWP seeks to maintain a visible, ongoing, and active IWP presence in the world. Programs are ongoing all year long, deepening existing connections and welcoming new collaborators.

New on the Paul and Hualing Engle Gallery:  One Tree Three Lives, a documentary that “lays bare the sorrows and triumphs in the life of Nieh Hualing.... novelist and essayist...a remarkable figure in modern Chinese literature.”   Directed by Angie Chen, the film premieres at the Hong Kong International Film Festival in March 2012.
