About the Artist
Ran Hwang creates large, intricate wall installations with fashion industry materials such as beads, buttons, pins and thread. To the artist, these items symbolize the ordinariness of human beings. Using a hammer to pound thousands of pins into walls, Hwang projects the austere embodiment of a monk practicing Zen. This repetitive and laborious process results in grandiose images of objects and beings, representing the natural and divine, in an attempt to address current social issues. Her works have been exhibited in Korea, Switzerland, USA and France, and are collected by several distinguished hotels, museums and companies.
