Eastern Promenade

Sold Out

Our first U.S. Stopover will begin at Portland’s Eastern Promenade, a marvelous expanse of green tucked between downtown and the Casco Bay, and one of the most unique sites we’ve ever seen. Then we take the party to the streets. Or, more specifically, the pubs, bars and music clubs of the Arts District and the Old Port.

Years ago the Portland Observatory, which overlooks our site, would raise a different colored flag for each ship approaching the port. If you saw your flag, you knew it was time to get down to the port and get to business. On August 4th, itʼll be time for our flag to fly.

The Portland Stopover is SOLD OUT. Please check back soon for more information.

    About the Event

    What is a Stopover?

We come into town Friday, stop over for the night, start early on Saturday, play music all day with our friends at an amazing, unique location. One site with two stages alternating sets with some of our favorite acts from around the world. And then, once the main event is over, we curate a series of afterparties and events throughout the town. We bring in local food and vendors to help us celebrate the town and the people.

    The Stopover Site

The Eastern Promenade, located at the foot of Munjoy Hill, is a 68-acre grassy reserve sloping down to the peaceful waters and islands of Casco Bay. The picturesque New England view here are some of the most beautiful in the world. Special thanks to the Friends of the Eastern Promenade for hosting our Stopover.

    Your Stopover Ticket

Every Stopover ticket is a beautifully-designed commemorative passport featuring a lenticular festival pass and other information about the Gentlemen of the Road. Your passport number can be used to redeem an exclusive live download compilation of songs recorded during the Stopovers.

    Where to Stay

There are plenty of hotel and camping options in and around the greater Portland area. Any downtown hotel will be reachable from the main event – or hop on board the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad and take a train ride to the show. Airport hotels are only a short drive away.

    Mumford & Sons

The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover is based loosely upon our favorite festivals like Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass and Scotland’s Loopallu Festivals. We want to stop off in towns where bands don’t usually tour, and celebrate the local people, food and music. We wanted to make sure that the bands on the bill are friends old and new, we hope you enjoy them.

    St. Vincent

    spacer

St. Vincent is an incredibly talented musician and songwriter. She is someone who we’ve admired from afar and her live show has been recommended to us countless times. Dynamic, intimate then explosive, all the things we love about gigs. She has played with Sufjan Stevens, and opened shows for arcade fire, grizzly bear and Andrew bird. Portland will be our first show together and we cannot wait.

    Dawes

    spacer

Dawes are one of our favourite live bands of all time. They play rock’n'roll in the way it should be played, with your heart on your sleeve and a sense of glorious abandon. Their musicianship and songwriting are incredible to behold, and they are the kind of band that will blow you away whatever your taste, if you’re a fan of live music and great songwriting, we reckon you’ll love this show. We’re honoured and just so excited to be touring with them again.

    The Maccabees

    spacer

The Maccabees are old friends of ours and we have shared many adventures with them on our home soil. We are just so glad to be sharing the adventure of the GOTR Stopover with them and the wonder of them, with you! With three wonderful albums under their belts and a live show to make you weak at the knees we can guarantee these guitar slamming geniuses will leave your ears hungry for more of their rifftastic songsmithary.

    Apache Relay

    spacer

Nashville is well represented at the GOTR stopover and people may love it for being a country music town, but what do people know eh? The ‘Shville is a rock n roll town. Each member of The Apache Relay maybe pitiful examples of ‘southern gents’ but they embody that rock n roll. Their album American Nomad is sick, not just in the rock n roll sense of the word (vomit, to clarify) but in the hipster sense too (awesome, to clarify). Listen to them now and start believing.

    Simone Felice

    spacer

Hailing from Woodstock, NY, Simone and his Felice Brothers were a part of the common musical ground that we shared before we even started as a band. On our first US tour in 2008 we crossed paths with some of the band for the first time in Omaha, Nebraska. Since then, Simone has gone on to release great music as The Duke and the King and now has a beautiful solo record which Ben and Ted were involved in.

We couldn’t throw a party without some good, honest rock and roll. These sisters have burst out of Los Angeles on a mission, and we’re into it. Vocal interplay and harmonies that only sisters can truly pull off, and a show with so much energy, it’s impossible not to be transfixed. Ben went down to their recent show in London and came away buzzing with excitement. We’re looking forward to learning a thing or two about how they rock it in LA these days.
