SBC 2012 - Funding applications open!

spacer

The 2012 IEEE Region 8 Student Branch congress will be taking place during 25-29 July in Madrid, Spain. That's less than 5 months from now! This is a unique event, taking place every two years, that brings together 300 representatives, including delegates from all branches and sections in the Region, GOLD chairs, senior R8 and global leadership, Regional Student Representatives from all over the world, staff and many others.

Don't miss the chance to meet all the other active student branches and GOLD affinity groups of Europe, Middle East and Africa, learn loads of useful skills for your officers and volunteers and get to talk about your activities, ideas and issues with senior IEEE officers such as the IEEE president and IEEE Region 8 Director! If you haven't done so already have a look at the R8 SBC 2012 website, you will find there more details about the venue and the program of the congress.

We at Region 8 SAC will fund one representative from each Region 8 Student Branch 'in good standing' to attend the congress: we'll pay for the registration, your section should pay for the travel expenses. So start deciding who will be representing your Student Branch, you might want to send one of your current officers (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, etc.) or a volunteer that is planning on becoming Student Branch officer so that he/she gets some training during the SBC. And if you want to send more volunteers to the SBC then start looking for some more funding from your industrial partners or by setting up some fund-raising activities!

You have until March 31 to submit your funding request and pre-register additional attendees. The full funding rules are available on the website, but here's what you really need to know:

  • Only 1 volunteer per branch is eligible for funding, and this officer is chosen by the branch executive committee.
  • The yearly reporting of your branch must be up-to-date, with a report having been submitted in the past 12 months.
  • Your officers must have been correctly reported on officers.vtools.ieee.org/.
  • Your student branch must have a working website.
  • Your student branch must have at least 12 members.

Make sure you meet all funding requirements, select who will be representing your branch, and go on and register! Don't wait till the last minute. See you in Madrid!

SBC 2012 - Major announcement!

Major announcement regarding the SBC 2012

Where will you be spending the best week of your summer next year? The only right answer to this question is, of course, at the IEEE Region 8 Student Branch and GOLD Congress, the biennial congress that brings together 300 student members from all across the region and the world, for a week full of learning experiences, networking and, of course, an incredible amount of fun.

You may be wondering though, where exactly will this be? And, now, we can finally answer your question…

The location for the SBC 2012 will be…

...

...

Madrid, Spain!

The congress organisation will be led by the Technical University of Madrid Student Branch, who previously organised the ISBC 2011. The year ahead will, for sure, be quite intense for them, but that’s what it takes to prepare a LEGENDARY event.

We will, of course, keep all of you posted on the developments, and will announce the registration and funding procedures when the time comes. For now, be sure to mark the last week of July on your calendar, and start gathering stuff for the Multicultural Evening!

See you all in Madrid! :)
