Mumford & Sons

spacer

The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover is based loosely upon our favorite festivals like Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass and Scotland’s Loopallu Festivals. We want to stop off in towns where bands don’t usually tour, and celebrate the local people, food and music. We wanted to make sure that the bands on the bill are friends old and new, we hope you enjoy them.

Michael Kiwanuka

spacer

Michael Kiwinuka has been going from strength to strength since signing to Ben’s record label, Communion. He was tipped as the sound of 2012 by the BBC, but as an artist he means so much more than polls and charts and competitions and contests. He is simply classic - His songs and how he arranges them, his voice, his demeanour… We are honoured to have him be a part of the Stopovers and cannot wait for his performances.

Nathaniel Rateliff

spacer

We have been touring alongside Nathaniel for a couple of years now. He first came on Marcus’s radar when Marcus was spending some time living in Denver in 2006. He has since gone on to be a dear friend of all of ours, an inspirational songwriter with a voice that tears right through you. Nathaniel creates moments so beautiful and intimate in his songs, and then breaks out into euphoric, relentless rock and roll. It’s a magnetic performance not to be missed.

Moulettes

spacer

Moulettes’ entrancing combination of strings and celestial harmonies; woodwind and weirdness; rhythm and devilry has bewitched crowds at many festivals, including Larmer Tree, Glastonbury, and Latitude, where they played BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction stage.

The Correspondents

spacer

The correspondents have been a firm favourite of ours for a while and we are most excited to be sharing them with you. Wether it’s a pub or a festival main stage, Mr Bruce and Chucks deliver an overwhelmingly powerful set that gets everyone dancing. Marrying 60s jive-swing with everything between dub-step and drum and bass, if the music doesn’t get you moving then Mr Bruce’s mind blowing moves will.

Slow Club

spacer

To be reunited with our dear friends Slow Club makes today a wonderful day. We have had the good fortune of sharing stages and adventures with Charles and Rebecca since we started touring and we are always pleased to see them. They started out from Sheffield about six years ago and have been folking their way around the world ever since. They will pull you in with their melody rich folk-pop before whispering heartbreak and sultry blues to you so look out, theres much more to this friendly due than meets the eye.

Willy Mason

spacer Play

We feel incredibly privileged to have Willy Mason for the Stopovers because we have been huge fans of his since “where the humans eat” came out a few years back. Mr Willy is a serious sickhead. Is it weird to have a man-crush on him? short answer… NO (for the long answer please watch this space). He’s one of the great songwriters of our generation. We remember watching the video to his song ‘Oxygen’ as a young impressionable teenager and thinking… ‘if one day we’re half as cool as this guy, then we will definitely be cool dudes”. We still live in hope. If you want to be inspired by music again, listen to him immediately, then thank us later.

About

spacer So the night does not end in Greenhead Park. Think of the exodus from the park more as half time, as the Stopover gears up for the second half with a few uniquely different and great events in the centre of Huddersfield. We will be running between all of the events, but as is often the case, we'll probably all end up at The House Party at The Other Rooms...

THE OTHER ROOMS HOUSE PARTY

spacer Tickets £6

We all love a House Party, right? It so happened the idea came to us when we arrived at The Other Rooms, which was in the middle of a refurbishment a couple of weeks ago. The owner has kindly allowed us make The Other Rooms after-party HQ as it were. Nick Etwell, who you may recognise from playing Trumpet with Mumford & Sons over the past couple of years, has brought up his exceptional band The Filthy Six from London to play their boogaloo / funk / soul / musicyoucannotstandstillto concoction in the first room. Downstairs, amongst the stone arches and caves and coves, people can get away from the craziness for a moment, whilst the fantastic Huddersfield natives "The Rag Tags" and M&S touring veteran "Albatross", will be serenading and rocking out in the back room. It's hopefully going to cater for every flight of fancy, apart from the hardcore at Tokyo's and happily amused at Club 122. Buy Tickets

COMEDY AT CLUB 122

spacer Tickets £5

For those who have had their fair share of music throughout the day, and would something a bit different, it is with great pleasure that we have incorporated a Comedy show, with a couple of our favourite emerging comedians travelling to Huddersfield for the event. Kicking off at Midnight at Dominic Woodward, prepare to have your sides split open, or fall off your proverbial chair as the fantastically sharp Alfie Brown dissects popular culture, and the award winning Piff The Magic Dragon masterfully combines comedy and magic. TOKYOS NIGHTCLUB

spacer DJ set on terrace

Tokyo's is where the rave is at. Well, more of an indie rave, but it's going to be loud, and there'll be dancing, and drinking, and at some point during the night Ben will be dropping in to spin some of his favourite tunes from the "golden year of naughties indie" - 2006 (The Strokes, The Killers, Arctic Monkeys etc). Tokyo's has multiple rooms, and bars, spread across three floors, the usual night will be going on, but look out for us we'll be there somewhere.. at some point.

Start at the Head of Steam off Platform 1 of Huddersfield Station, before calling at The Commercial in Slaithwaite, and Marsden’s legendary Riverhead Tap. Both villages are great stopping-off points, with quirky local shops and places to eat. And for the more energetic of you, if the weather’s looking good, abandon the train and walk along the canal between the two villages in 40 minutes.

    Holmfirth

For a bit of television nostalgia, nothing beats a trip to Holmfirth, home to BBC’s Last of the Summer Wine for over 25 years, and where you can grab something to eat in Sid’s famous Café, or pose for a snap on Nora Batty’s steps. With plenty of places to eat and drink, riverside ducks to feed, and independent shops to satisfy even the most-hardened browser, there’s something for everyone here.
