Description

"[This] new application from Questia Media might truly change the way researching is done." Peter Suciu, Allbusiness.com

"There are other web browsing and encyclopedia apps available, but the Questia Library is one that delivers unprecedented access to millions of publications."
Amanda Fox, Smokin Apps

Questia Library is a powerful research library covering a vast array of subjects in the humanities and social sciences, from history to philosophy and art to economics. The collection of books and articles is carefully selected and organized by our professional librarians with the researcher in mind.

Most ebooks cost about $9.95, but for less than 1 cent per book you can read the complete text of a constantly growing collection of over 77,000 books and 4 million journal, magazine, and newspaper articles with Questia Library. And these are not just outdated public domain books but current, copyrighted books that cannot be found anywhere else on the Internet.

Download the app for permanent access to 5,000 free public domain books plus one day of access to the entire Questia Library. (After one day, you may purchase additional access as needed.)

Questia Library is organized in an easy-to-use category structure that can be browsed with efficiency, allowing you to quickly drill down to one of 7,000 specific research topics such as AIDS in Africa, Age of Reason, Psychology of War, Word Origins, and thousands more. Each of these topics is created by Questia’s librarians and carefully linked to recommended books and articles for research on that topic. You can also search the full text of all of the books and articles to locate relevant publications, plus search within books to locate specific pages of interest.

Your account is also accessible online at www.questia.com where you can create project folders to manage and store your work. At questia.com you can easily quote & cite publications, create automatic bibliographies, bookmark pages, add items to your bookshelf, take digital notes, and make/view highlights. Within the Questia Library application you not only have mobile access to the entire Questia collection, but you can also bookmark pages, add items to your bookshelf, and view the highlights you have created at questia.com.

Questia Library makes mobile research easy, while also giving you the option of working from any computer with an Internet connection!

If you are already a Questia.com subscriber, the free download of this application will give you full mobile access to your account for as long as your subscription is active without any additional costs.

COMPATIBILITY: Compatible with iOS4. Questia Library is available for Questia.com accounts and NOT for Questia School accounts.

App exists only to sell subscription
by ShenanDon

The Questia subscription service, particularly the annual version at $100 a year, is an excellent value. You receive instant electronic access to thousands of scholarly books and journals -- any one of which may cost that or more.

Yet the barely functional, buggy, and unstable Questia App is hugely disappointing. It appears that the marketers behind the Questia service wanted something to suffice for just 24 hours -- its free demo period -- only long enough before you needed to subscribe as a paying customer or forget the whole thing.

The Web-based experience is slightly better, but antiquated as well. Help files discuss options for using either Internet Explorer or Netscape Browsers. 😳

When you access the service via a web browser (on a desktop or laptop or even your iPad), the iPad *app* has no awareness of what you did using the web, even though you use the same account credentials. The app is inexplicably crippled, dumbed down from functionality on its web counterpart, and kept ignorant of your web-based actions using the same account.

It's truly a shame because the iPad experience -- clearly an afterthought for nothing but marketing purposes -- could have been a greatly useful tool to students and researchers.

Buy the subscription for content. Muddle thru the clunky but serviceable web interface. It works ok even on an iPad (without Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers).

Fantastic Service, but second rate App
by hamiltonpaul73

This is truly a stellar service and value, but the app has basic problems that make it frustrating to use. For example, you can't erase a "search" once you have entered it. You have to log out of the application if you want to start a new search. This is really basic, folks!

And you can't highlight texts using the iPhone or iPad - which would be a wonderful help.

As another reviewer said, the web based interface is clunky, but basically functional. The library access, though, for the money just cannot be praised enough. If you are doing research, it's an invaluable tool. Just wish they had put more work into their user experience. And I really hope they improve the functionality of the iPhone and iPad apps - amazing research tools!
