Warfighter vs. Black Ops 2.
PC gamers finally got a decent Optimus Prime shoot-em-up with 2010's Transformers: War for Cybertron. Excitement for the announcement of the sequel, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron quickly transformed (cue the classic sound effect) to disappointment when Activision first announced there'd be no PC version, and then back again when the PC version was resurrected at E3. I bombarded Activision Associate Producer J.D. Livergood with questions: Will Fall of Cybertron get the all-too-common half-assed console-port treatment or a well-crafted translation to mouse and keyboard controls and graphics settings? We've got the first details. Read More »
Oh, you know how it is. You've gotta start considering your character's attributes before an MMO even comes out; it saves time you'd otherwise spend on the character creation screen upon release, expediting your journey through the game world, you see. If you've been daydreaming of what your Guild Wars 2 character will be, maybe these new intro videos for four of the races will help you make up your mind. Read More »
It's been a few months since Saints Row: The Third's PC release, and it's a bit embarrassing to think that some PC players are still having problems. Have you experienced choppiness, stutter, or just a general slowdown? You might be one of those affected due to your video card, in which case it might comfort you to know that the developers are working on the issue. Read More »
Remember the South Park RPG we unveiled a little while back? Well, today we have a new batch of screenshots. I thought the concept of South Park: The Stick of Truth was a little crazy to begin with, but I was naive then. These four screenshots are showing something even crazier than concept alone. If you're a fan of the turn-based strategy genre, it's time to turn your eyes on Panzer Corps, which is releasing a new expansion, Afrika Korps, soon. What will this expansion bring to the game, other than a liking for the letter K? you may ask. Well, click through to behold the trailer and find out. Read More »
We could be creeping into full-on Astro "ruh roh" territory here. Sunny outdoor environments and co-op play have led many fans to question whether or not Dead Space 3 has lost the franchise's signature fear factor. EA marketing did nothing to assuage those concerns today, confirming co-op play was added because research showed some gamers felt going it alone was just too scary. Sigh. Read More »
Gearbox has designed enough campaign content to keep you shooting and looting in Borderlands 2 for 58 hours -- and that's before you retire your maxed out Gunzerker to check out the four other classes. For those of you who take a game's length into consideration when you're deciding how to spend your hard-earned cash, rest assured that Borderlands 2 will give you plenty of bang for your buck, particularly if you're interested in becoming a real (fake) badass. If you think the plot of Game of Thrones has a lot going on, wait until you experience it in Crusader Kings 2. As spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, the notoriously complex strategy game has a mod that works to bring the reasonably dense world of Westeros into the fold. With it comes all the alliances in the Game of Thrones world and all the conflicts that come with them. And with version 0.2, the Wildlings from the other side of the Wall enter the fray. Read More »
When I checked out the Steam Summer Sale this morning, I was happy to see that one of my favorite games of 2011, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, had been dropped to $16. More people get to play a great game, hooray! What a deal. But then, GOG.com went ahead and one-upped Valve. In a one-day only deal, you can snag both The Witcher and The Witcher 2 for a combined price of just under $17. Well played, GOG. Read More »
For a while there, zombie games were all about shooting as many of the undead as humanly possible. Now, it seems they're taking much more of a survivalist approach. Joining DayZ in this new generation of rather interesting zombie games is The War Z. The pseudo-MMO sounds a heck of a lot like DayZ, but with more RPG trappings like NPCs, quests, and skill trees. IGN has a full interview with developers Hammerpoint Interactive about The War Z, and you should probably check it out. Read More »
Talk about giving your buddy a ride. By recruiting a buddy to World of Warcraft via the Starter Edition program, you'll get access to the Obsidian Nightwing mount. No, not in your inventory. You get to transform into one and invite your friend to hop on your back. Cue The Rolling Stone's Beast of Burden. Read More »
"Free" means different things in nearly every F2P game, many of which deserve an asterisk. Heroes of Newerth is removing any questions about its status by making its roster of more than 100 heroes free for all players. Developer S2 Games announced this morning that beginning on July 20 (a.k.a. tomorrow) Heroes of Newerth won't simply be free to play, it will be "free to own." Read More »
Diablo 3. More than just the name of a game, it's become the jumping off point on a number of hot-button gaming topics: always-on internet requirements, co-op play, real-money auction houses, difficulty levels, hackers, and endgame content. Posting on the Diablo 3 forums this morning, Blizzard President Mike Morhaime addresses just about all of those items while giving us an idea what to expect in the future from the record-setting loot fest. Battlefield 3: Close Quarters is fun, it's just not Battlefield. You know, the franchise with the massive maps, vehicles, and class- and team-based gameplay. Thankfully, DICE hasn't completely lost touch with its loyal fanbase. At least that's my impression after watching the debut trailer for Armored Kill, an expansion that gets back to Battlefield's core with the biggest map in the game's history. See the trailer within. We're nearing the end of July and I still haven't finished Mass Effect 3 yet. And now with the Steam sale going on my back catalog is growing ever larger. Will I ever be able to find the time to defeat the Reapers? Eventually. But it seems like the longer I wait to go back and play more Mass Effect 3, the better it becomes. New patches, "better" endings, and now more free multiplayer DLC. Read More »
