Kathy Astromoff
Chief Executive Officer, UBM Electronics

Kathy was appointed Chief Executive Officer of UBM Electronics in 2012.  She previously served as EVP of UBM TechWeb, overseeing media brands serving deep-tech communities such as game developers, software developers and IT security researchers. These brands included UBM’s leading paid conferences: Game Developers Conference and Black Hat USA. She completed the international expansion of the Game Developers Conference franchise in Europe and China, led the initial development of Black Hat’s online presence, and successfully initiated multiple acquisitions and managed their integration, including the Online Marketing Summit.

 

Kathy graduated summa cum laude in English from the University of California at Berkeley.

Adrian Barrick
Chief Executive Officer, UBM Built Environment

Adrian was appointed chief executive of UBM Built Environment in October 2008. Before taking up the CEO role, Adrian was group director of property and construction, winning PPA business publisher of the year and PPA business website of the year in 2007. He started his career as a journalist, spending eight years as editor of Building, during which time the title won PPA business magazine of the year three times. Adrian has an honours degree in history from Warwick University.

Ruth Carter

Ruth Carter is founder and Chief Executive Officer of UBM Conferences, a division of UBM plc. Since 2006, Ruth has led the growth of UBM’s conference business, leading its expansion in key geographies including Europe and the US as well as establishing operations in China, India and Brazil. Ruth has been in the conference business for nearly 20 years and has been responsible for events across a wide range of sectors.

Ruth joined UBM from EMAP where she was Managing Director of EMAP Conferences, a business she launched and, over her seven 7 year tenure, grew into a successful and highly respected conference business. She learnt her conference trade with IIR, based in both the UK and North America.

Ruth is a non-executive director of UBM’s largest live events division, UBM Live. She is a member of two Board committees: the first oversees UBM Live’s activities in the emerging markets and the second guides the business’s continuing geographic expansion. Working across a number of UBM’s businesses, Ruth also directs UBM’s European Audience and Data Group.

Ruth is a regular speaker at events, reflecting her long-standing involvement with the conference industry and her role as a founder member of Europe’s Conference Industry Group. She also provides coaching to senior executives both within UBM and in other companies.

Ruth holds a degree in music from Trinity College of Music, London; a qualification that adds little value to her day-to-day work activities.

Ninan Chacko
Chief Executive Officer, PR Newswire

Ninan was appointed Chief Executive Officer of PR Newswire in February 2009. Ninan was Chief Commercial Officer of Worldspan, the worldwide travel information, e-commerce and service provider to travel suppliers, agencies and corporations. Prior to Worldspan, Mr Chacko spent more than 13 years with Sabre Holdings, a leading supplier of distribution and technology solutions to the travel industry and Sabre’s former owner, AMR Corp. A native of Malaysia, Mr Chacko was educated in Asia, Europe and the United States, earning a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Kansas.

Mike Coffey
Chief Executive Officer, RISI

Mike Coffey was appointed to the post of Chief Executive Officer of UBM RISI in May 2009. Prior to this appointment, Mike was RISI’s Chief Operating Officer and had been with the business for two years. Mike joined RISI from UBM-owned CMP Media (now restructured into a number of smaller UBM businesses). While at CMP Media, Mike held a range of senior roles in different areas spanning product development and technology and participating in the acquisition and integration of numerous now UBM businesses. An analytical thinker, he holds a bachelor's degree from Rensselaer, New York.

John Day

Prior to being appointed to the post of Chief Executive Officer of UBM Global Trade in April 2009, John was CEO of UBM's forestry products information and intelligence business, RISI. John joined RISI from his role as chief financial officer of UBM’s US-based technology businesses. Before that appointment John spent five years based in Hong Kong as chief financial officer of UBM Asia. In each of these positions John played a central role in the acquisition of a wide range of assets and businesses that now make up significant parts of UBM’s technology and Asian businesses. John’s early career was as a chartered accountant, in public practice and supporting large international corporations with financial assurance and transaction support services, mainly in the UK but also for extended periods in Australia and the US. He was based in London and a partner in the international accounting and financial services firm, BDO.

Henry Elkington
Chief Executive Officer, Data Services & UBM Medica

Henry was appointed to oversee all of UBM’s data services businesses in October 2010. He fulfils this role concurrently with his role as Chief Executive Officer of UBM Medica to which he was appointed in May 2006.

Henry joined UBM in August 2005 as Director of Corporate Development, Mergers & Acquisitions. He has extensive experience in corporate development having spent 16 years at The Boston Consulting Group, where he advised clients on strategy, M&A and post-merger integration in a wide range of industries. He became a partner and director in 1996 and was part of the leadership team of BCG's technology & communications practice. In 2004 he established his own consultancy practice advising CEOs.

Henry graduated from Cambridge University with a degree in electrical engineering and won a Harkness Fellowship to study technology and public policy at MIT.

Jime Essink
Chief Executive Officer, UBM Asia

Jime took up his post as Chief Executive Officer of CMP Asia, now UBM Asia, in November 2007. Jime has long experience of leading and growing B2B media businesses in emerging and developed markets throughout Asia and Europe. He joined UBM from VNU Exhibitions where he worked since 1999. Based in Shanghai as CEO of VNU Exhibitions Asia, Jime was responsible for VNU's portfolio of more than 20 Asian exhibitions which serve a wide range of B2B and consumer markets. In 2006 he was appointed CEO of VNU Exhibitions Europe and President of VNU Exhibitions Asia, spending a week a month in China. Before joining VNU, Jime also spent seven years as managing director of Miller Freeman Netherlands (now part of UBM Live), organiser of among others the Pharmaceutical and Food Ingredients events.

Robert Faletra

A professional journalist, Robert joined the company in 1989 and during his tenure,CRN become the largest Channel-focused trade publication in North America. As CEO, Robert heads UBM Channel which provides a wide range of media services and business tools for Solution Providers and IT suppliers to run their business. Considered an authority for solution provider and distribution channel issues, he is a frequent speaker at major industry events and top manufacturers’ private gatherings of solution providers. Robert is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Simon Foster

Simon was appointed CEO of UBM Live following its merger with UBM International Media in July 2008. Simon was appointed Managing Director and to the Board of UBM International Media in March 2006 having been General Manager & Group Director of the business’s Ingredients Division since September 2003. Prior to that, he managed many of CMPi's leading magazines and events. A qualified marketer, Simon has been with UBM since 1998. He joined UBM after a broad ranging career in marketing, sales and PR.

Caroline Jackson Levy

Caroline Jackson Levy joined UBM in 2005 becoming Managing Director of UBM Awards in 2009, having expanded rapidly the size and scale of the division to include the successful launch and management of some of the highest profile business to business ceremonies in the UK, including The National Business Awards and The Asian Awards.

In 2011, Caroline was made Chief Executive of UBM Awards and partnerships - expanding the role to build new events through partnerships, particularly outside the UK.  The success of her business, she says, comes from the team's ability to deliver exceptional events which delight on the night, but which, at their core, fulfill real business objectives for sponsors and guests and deliver real value, far beyond the ceremony.

Caroline began her career in advertising and sponsorship with the UK national press, and has also worked in the public sector - latterly as the head of internal communications for the Department of Health. A trained opera singer and then radio presenter, Caroline coaches senior executives and politicians in public speaking.

Caroline is a non-executive member of the UBM Live Board - where she holds Board responsibility for Communication, and is business mentor and coach to several senior managers both within and outside UBM. She is Board member of NYMT - a youth music theatre company which encourages young people to participate in the Arts. Caroline is a regular public speaker, interviewer, blogger and writer with a particular interest in integrating entrepreneurial thinking into corporate environments.

Paul Miller
Chief Executive Officer, UBM Technology

Paul was appointed Chief Executive Officer of UBM Technology in May 2012. Paul was previously CEO of UBM Electronics and UBM Canon (Publishing) following the acquisition of Canon Communications LLC. UBM Electronics was formed by the merger of UBM’s EE Times Group with the Canon Communications electronics business. Prior to this, Paul was CEO of UBM’s EE Times Group, a global leader in media and marketing services for the electronics industry.

Paul joined UBM in 1991, holding a number of management positions throughout Europe and North America. From 1986 to 1991 he worked for Reed Business Information in various sales and management positions. Paul has led the expansion of the UBM's electronics business into China, Japan, India, Brazil, Korea and Taiwan over the past decade.

Paul graduated in the UK with a B.A. (Hons) in Communication Studies and graduated from Chartered Institute of Marketing with a Diploma in Marketing and recently was awarded Associate Member status of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (ACiM).

Phil Callow
Chief Executive Officer, UBM Aviation

Phil was appointed as Chief Executive Officer of UBM Aviation in January 2012.

Phil has been a UBM leader since 2005 and joined from sister company UBM Medica, where he was CEO for their UK businesses. Prior to joining UBM, Phil held a variety of business and consumer publishing roles within EMAP and BBC Worldwide.

He’s passionate about data and digital products and brings a wealth of media experience and expertise with a track record of managing complex change, finding innovative customer-led solutions to drive business transformation. During his time at the helm of UBM Medica’s UK operations he led the digital development strategy, successfully transitioning UBM Medica from a predominantly print-led business to a digitally-dominated data, subscription and online business.

Phil is a graduate of Fitzwilliam Cambridge University where he read Land Economy. He is based at the UBM Aviation Head Office in Luton, UK.

Harry Page

Harry Page is an accomplished senior executive with over 25 years experience in the telecommunications and microelectronics industries. Harry is CEO of UBM TechInsights, a business which provides consulting and information services to the electronics industry. Most recently, Harry was the President of Semiconductor Insights prior to its acquisition by UBM. Harry was educated at the Algonquin College School of Business and University of Manitoba. He also holds several patents in the area of mobile computing image capture and processing.

Sally Shankland

Sally was appointed Chief Executive Officer of UBM Connect in May 2012.  Prior to that appointment, Sally was CEO of UBM Medica US. 

Sally joined UBM in 1988 and held successive positions in marketing, sales and management.  Sally has led UBM Medica US's successful transition from a print-based publishing business to its position as one of the leading digital marketing services businesses serving the US healthcare market.

Sally is a graduate of UBM's Business Leaders Programme (2001 & 2011) and has completed executive development courses with Harvard Business School and Cornell University.  She graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.A. (Summa Cum Laude, Honors) in Social Science following being educated in Italy and Germany.

Kate Spellman

Kate was appointed to the post of President, UBM Studios – UBM's virtual interactive environment provider - in 2010. A veteran of the technology industry and a graduate of UBM's Leadership Development Program, Kate has more than 20 years of marketing, business development and management experience. Prior to taking up her post at UBM Studios, Kate was SVP Marketing and Business Development at UBM's Everything Channel business where she was responsible for driving branding and messaging as well as developing strategic partnerships. Before that role, Kate was Publisher of UBM's SmallBizResource.com, the first comprehensive online "how to" technology source for small businesses. Before joining UBM, Kate was Vice President of Conferences at International Media Partners; publishers of CEO Magazine, Emerging Markets newspapers and organizers of the CEO Institutes, one of the world's leading chief executive membership organizations.
