Drunk Gummies

By Pintester on February 12, 2012 in Food & Drink

What’s more fun than gummy bears? Drunk gummy bears, duh. So this says fun in a lot of ways:

spacer

The instructions are simple: cover gummy bears with vodka, leave in the fridge for a week. The hard part, as I found out, is not eating all the gummy bears before you can try the recipe.

Um, oops. There weren’t that many left for me to liquor up. But I forged on.

Everybody in the pool!

I stuck it in the fridge for a week. And then my family came over and helped me test them. The general consensus: “Blargh!” None of us are the kind of girly girls who cough and choke when we take a swig of vodka and whine, “It buuuuurns!,” but these things were pretty liquory. Also, then I had to hide them because my nieces were about to come over and I didn’t want them to get all excited about gummy bears and then go, “Ew. These smell like Auntie.”

So, I probably won’t make these again.

Made these and I used Burnetts Watermelon Vodka and a capri sun. Mix in some sort of Juice. The first day they were so squishy after a few hours, didn't taste that good. Wait four or more days then they taste like jello! I really didn't taste the vodka or anything! They were like jello

If you add a can of frozen juice with only half the water towards the end of the week it sort of sucks up that juice flavor instead of vodka!

My roommates and I made these a few months ago. We had a TON of gummy bears and left them in the fridge for a couple of days. They just kept getting bigger as they soaked. They actually tasted pretty good. I can't remember what kind of vodka we used though. However, the bears that were on top didn't get hardly any vodka and the ones that were on the bottom were super strong. We put some in plastic bags, stuck 'em in our purses, and took them to the bars. I didn't eat many of them, and at the end of the night, I had a giant colorful hunk of vodka gummy... Didn't even resemble a bear anymore. But, in general, our attempt was a success.

I made these with Bacardi Dragonberry and they had a lot less of the burn and a lot more deliciousness :)

I've made these several times but I've learned you only soak them over night and If you want them a really good way drain them and put them in the freezer after soaking then put in a fruity drink...helps keep it cold and well its extra alcohol while drinking plus something to eat or we've put them into jello shots too that was was interesting...

Actually... the right recipe asks to add one of those frozen juice from concentrate things.. it helps with the taste of liquor.

My friend and I tried these once and we ended up just eating the gummy bears and drinking the alcohol separately.  The few that we did manage to make were absolutely disgusting.  But yet again, we only waited a few hours to try them.  You can't expect two 21 year old girls to sit around and wait for a chance to drink!

I tried these and they were gooey on the outside and hard on the inside, absolutely disgusting.  Does it matter what brand?  I just bought the store brand.  Tried worms and bears.

Some friends of mine made these for my party, but instead of vodka, they used tequila and soaked them for 2 days. Then they added fruit juice to them and soaked them another day. They. Were. Epic.

We tried this before a float trip (while on vacation).  BUT - 1) we only soaked them overnight and 2) we covered the dishes of gummies with a tight lid and 3)we used about 6 bags of gummie bears - 1/2 in vodka, 1/2 in rum.

They actually tasted like vodka mixed with kool-aid  or fruit juice (depending on gummy flavor).

we drained off the excess alcohol before loading them all in the cooler for the trip.

Why not take a shot of vodka, then chase with a mouth full of delicious, non-soaked gummy bears? That is what I would call a win-win situation!

I tried this with gummy worms before I had ever heard of pinterest. The result was the same as yours, solidified vodka that you had to chew. Since I used worms, they were too big to just swallow... Many a wasted drunk worms...

You ended up using way too much vodka for the few gummies you had.  You want the gummies packed relatively tightly and the vodka to just barely come to the top of the gummies, and then stir once or twice a day for two or three days.  They'll be a little squishy and sticky, but that can be solved by spreading them out on a baking sheet and letting them sit for another 8-12 hours.  I LOVE vodka gummies.  (Also, don't use 100 proof vodka, stick with the 80 proof.  Too high of an alcohol content will "melt" the gummies and leave you with syrupy liquor.)

Everybody on Pinterest is making these so damn difficult. I've been make Rummy Bears on the regular since before Pinterest was even a registered website, and they are delish and super easy. Take a few pounds of gummy bears, put them in a glass baking dish, and pour a bunch of rum over them. Not enough so that they're swimming, but enough that they're all coated. Cover it with foil, go away for a few hours, come back, pour a little more rum, and mix them around. All in all, they should take about 36 hours to cure. I usually add rum about three times over the duration, but whatever floats your boat (but not your gummy bears, because you don't want them to float). Usually, if I'm making about three pounds of bears, I use the better portion of a regular sized bottled of cherry rum. You can use regular rum, but I think the fruity kinds make the bears taste less like rum and more like candy, but still get you good and drunk. Give these another shot, because they're so so so worth it.

Making a vodka watermelon has the same "fail". It's just straight vodka. How could we think it woulc come out tasting good? Way too strong! Much better to water-it-down with some lemonade first.

Friend and I tried this once.  On the beach.  In a red solo cup.  Without a week in the fridge.  We just got a sad, soupy, sticky mixture of vodka and melted gummy bears.  So we made her boyfriend eat/drink it.
