4th July 2012: CERN announces discovery of a new particle, consistent with the Higgs boson.

On 31 July 2012 the ATLAS and CMS experiment place their papers, submitted for publication reporting the discovery of the new particle, on the HEP archive. ATLAS showed a larger signal than at the CERN Press Conference on July 4 2012.  ATLAS Paper  CMS Paper
