NYPD ND Kills Clerk Fleeing Felony | The Truth About Guns

According to nydailynews.com, “An unarmed Bronx bodega worker fleeing a botched armed robbery at his uncle’s store was accidentally shot dead by a police officer early Friday, cops said. While witnesses said Reynaldo Cuevas was killed in a lethal case of mistaken identity, police said his death came after the officer’s gun went off as the two collided outside the store . . . Cuevas was sprinting with his head down when he slammed into the officer, who was standing with his gun drawn, according to [NYPD Deputy Commissioner Paul] Browne. As the two tumbled to the ground, the cop ‘accidentally discharged his firearm’ — inflicting the mortal wound, Browne said.”

If a CCW holder did this, those same cops would toss him in jail for recklessly endangering public safety – and some level of manslaughter, as well.

About Bill Quick

I am a small-l libertarian with conservative leanings on most issues, except on many traditionally conservative social issues, where my stance would be regarded as hopelessly liberal by most social conservatives. My primary concern is to increase individual liberty as much as possible in the face of statist efforts to restrict it from both the right and the left. If I had to sum up my beliefs as concisely as possible, I would say, "Stay out of my wallet and my bedroom," "your liberty stops at my nose," and "don't tread on me." I will believe that things are taking a turn for the better in America when married gays are able to, and do, maintain large arsenals of automatic weapons, and tax collectors are, and do, not.

    The circumstances are surely curious:

The bullet struck Mr. Cuevas in the back of his left shoulder. … The single bullet had traced a harsh trajectory: it managed to damage the left lung, heart and major blood vessels

Getting shot in the back in a face-to-face confrontation is unusual, but then consider who we’re dealing with:

Mr. Kelly would not identify the officer who shot Mr. Cuevas but said that he had been on the force for seven years and had never before fired his gun.

And to complete the keystone kop episode:

In a related event, a police officer responding alone to the robbery crashed into a car stopped at a red light not far from the store. The authorities said he sustained a broken left femur and a possible fractured nose and underwent surgery; the civilians in the other car had minor injuries.

The broken femur indicates the cop was not wearing his seat belt (I speak from experience here). So the final tally is: criminals all safe and sound, one civilian killed and others injured, and one cop in serious condition. Who is the real danger to us?

I believe y’all are missing the lesson here.

Guns are bad, mmmmkay? Bitter clingers don’t seem to realize that. What better demonstration of the inherent danger of those vicious bang-sticks than the slaughter of the innocent?

    Eggs, omlet…some assembly required.
