Poured from a green 375 cl corked and caged bottle into my Houblon Chouffe Dobbelen IPA Tripel flute. Fairly clear straw gold color, medium size delicately bubbling white head. Head retention is very good..shrinks down to about a quarter inch and hangs in there. Spotty lacing on the glass.

Great smell of funk and lite vinegary sourness.

Tastes very good. The funk is predominant...musty and barnyard flavors. There is a little lemon zest here, but the sourness is there also...not anything like a Saison. The sourness is just right for me...more intense than Lips of Faith beers but not straight out vinegar like Rodebach Grand Cru either.

Mouthfeel is good....,tart and crisp. Not too light. I had it with sliced apples and pears and some aged cheese. The beer was a great accompanyment.

Outstanding beer...a bit pricy, but I would have it again.

Pours medium chill haze orange with a foamy head. Not a dense head, and it seems always ready to collapse. Some lace.

Nice tart nose, with a few barnyard notes. Some yeast and wheat must.

Drinking this one a bit too cold... Tart and bitter notes dominate. Some yeast, some lemon, some bitter grain husk. A little funk, but less on the tongue than in the nose. As the palate clears, there's some bitter, some tart, and a dried note. I want to say there is tart fruit, but it is more funk than fruit. This is a refreshing beer.

Lighter bodied, nice carbonation.

Been doing a few from this style lately. This is easier drinking than other brewers of this style. A touch softer -- the sour isn't such a kick in the face as others. Nice bitter-sour balance. Liked this quite a bit.

Body is very pale, borderline Berliner status... loads of quick beading, great lacing and head retention.

Aromas explode from the bottle - funky green apple, tart candy notes, lots of 'barnyard' type qualities. Crisp, clean, tart.

Not quite as bright on the tongue... the imposing tart character is more subdued, a bit dirty, nothing amiss but just a little muddy.

The lack of monstrous tart love actually makes this more drinkable than your typical gueuze... it actually drinks sort of like a Berliner.

The last remaining shelf gueuze in my area. And as such, overlooked.

Pours a brilliant gold with towering, fluffy head into my Cantillon tulip.

Aroma is initially sulfurous, hints of gasoline fading into a horsey, white grape. Almonds.

Young, full bodied gueuze. Round apple sweetness falls off into a clean, light lactic sourness. Fine tannin structure contributes to a lingering, clean finish. A bit one-note on the palate is the only criticism.

A fine gueuze that fits my temperament. Could stand to gain some additional complexity, which aging will hopefully bring as the Brett continues to work on the long chain sugars that remain. Despite its low profile amongst gueuzes, I would say while not as exciting as the brash, but flawed, Tilquin, this well structured gueuze is one that could be great in the years to come.

Beer poured from bottle into a Tulip shaped glass

A - Beer pours with a hazy straw colored body; two finger, rocky textured, white-colored head; holds very well; body is very well-carbonated; barely any lacing; lots of visible yeast sediment

S - Strong acidic and vinegar scents; leather; sour lemon; subtle hints of oak barrel; olives; mellow scents of citrus fruit

T - Very tart vinegar taste at the beginning, then disappears very quickly; smooth wood flavor; leather flavor hints the back half of the tongue and remain for a while; dry yeast; white wine/grape taste; leather

M - Light sweet white grape wine and oak aftertaste; very effervescent; dry tart; sour; refreshing

D - Definite must try for sour beer lovers; I think this would also make a good "gateway" beer for those wanting to give the whole sour beer thing a try; nice tart front and smooth oak flavor at the end; good balance and nice complexity

A: Pours a hazy straw/golden color with a massive, foamy white head. Great head retention, but minimal lacing.

A: Plenty of lemon mixed with a ton of barnyard funk and bretty aromas. Just a bit of tartness.

T: More lemon upfront with a hint of green apple with more barnyard. There is a slight metallic flavor on the finish though.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Not very tart/sour. Dry finish.

O: This beer is definitely more bretty than sour. A decent gueuze, but there are plenty of other ones out there I prefer.

Light champagne bubbles in a pale straw colored body.

This smelled skunked and funked, quite 'ripe'.

Light-bodied, well balanced. Not too tart, but definitely funky tasting.

Not to start a tirade, but I think this beer was a victim of sitting on a shelf in its green bottle. I don't see the point of using green bottles for beer, even ones with low hop content. I think I'd have been disappointed if I had cellared this for years myself only to find it had been skunked from the day I bought it.

A: Thin, fast bubbles sparkel in this hazy golden brew with a fast falling light little head. A lovely dollop of yeast splashed out of the bottle at the end- YUM!

S: Assaults the nose with cider ripe tartness/fermented cheese

T: The smell is more astringent then the taste, as it's sour fruit masks the sweaty feet funk that makes the gueuze a yeast beast. Beautifully delicate on the tongue with apple and pear fruits, a touch of acid like lemon and a well rounded burst of vingar.

M: Dry to the bone but dancing bubbles tickle the palate along

O: Just what the doctor ordered! Although the look and smell aren't a show stopper the tart and funky but superior balancing act between smells and tastes that would otherwise be off putting, clean the palate and warm the belly

1404th Review on BA
Bottle to LA Tumbler
375ml C/C

Best by: 30/3/2031
Purchased for $10.99, El Cerrito Liquor, Corona, CA

App- A very bright and clear yellow with a lot of bubbles coming up to a think 1/2" head that was bright white. Bubbles just stayed throughout the drink. Not exactly a cling monster.

Smell- A little bit lacking compared to the world class leaders of this style. A bit more vinegary and grassy than others. Only a small funk on the nose.

Taste- It's nice. It was light crisp and a little biting. The vinegar drops a bit and instead the funk comes on the taste. More grassy and damp.

Mouth- Light bodied and light bubbly carbonation. Had a residual apple/funk flavor.

Drink- I paired this with a ribeye and it was very nice. The meat really cut through and the Gueuze brought out the spice rub fantastically.

Golden, hazy, and bubbly. Pearly white head with tiny bubbles sticks around for the long haul. It smells great – tart granny smiths and a musty dry wood. If you really get the honker into the glass you might recoil from vinous astringency but I didn't mind... Sour, dry, and fizzy. Does the trick on a hot day, and a winner in my book.

375ml – caged, corked, punted, and “best” for the next 19 years.
