Ximian is a company Miguel de Icaza and I founded in late 1999. On August 4th in 2003, we sold it to Novell. At Novell I was the Chief Technology and Strategy Officer for Linux until the end of 2009.

In the summer of 2006, my team released SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 to many rewards and great acclaim.

In the summer of 2003 I worked on a project called "Dashboard." I blogged my work here [XML].

In late 2000, Miguel and I were cheerleading for the Evolution hackers, in advance of the 1.0 release. A few days later, Joe and Ryan and I went out to solicit man-on-the-street opinions about the release. This ended up snowballing into a global phenomenon. But what doesn't, these days?

In 1998, I did some work on profiling-driven optimization of code ordering, and wrote a paper describing some of what I did. [pdf] [ps]

Also in 1998, I did some work on an automatic typo corrector called notyop. Back then, I didn't know what a Levenshtein edit distance was, so it's a little hokey -- and unfinished -- but still neat. One of many projects I wish someone would pick up and complete.

Various other things I have done

I compiled the transcript of the 8-day Scopes "monkey" trial into a script which my friends performed on July 4th, 2005.

I spent a week in Rio in January 2004, and gave away disposable cameras to kids in one of the city's largest slums.

December 31st of 2002, I made some cartoonish drawings. hello guys!
