Gordon Chang predicts, guess what, the collapse of China

spacer Interminable pessimist and broken record Gordon Chang has been given another platform on which to put forward the same message that he always does, that China and the CPC are on the brink of collapse, which is conveniently the topic of his 2001 book, The Coming Collapse of China.

Chang tells Ontario public broadcaster TVO that we could be talking about China as the world's next failed state at this time next year, or the year after, or the year after that, or however many years it takes the broken clock that is Gordon Chang to be right.

"In China you can see all the elements moving in the wrong direction," Chang says, with the gravity of one who has plenty of experience of being wrong.

As evidence for his predictions (which, it bears repeating, are the same as he's been making since 2001) Chang states that Chinese economic growth is closer to zero or 1% than the 7% claimed by the Party... and most economists, and leading international think tanks.

Gordon is right, China is already collapsing. Right now it's happening slowly, like an iceberg breaking up. The leaders are all madly shifting their money and their families out of the country in preparation, just like rats on a sinking ship. when the time comes, these naked officials will be out like a flash. But the billions of zombies they have brainwashed for the last sixty years will stay behind, and carry on annoying us with their broken English and their misguided patriotism

  • Xzigraz

That's cool, the current China has a lot of problems and these issues might not be fixed. The collapsing is an opportunity for the Chinese people to move the country in the right direction, not necessary following the American way though. To quote one of Hirogen from Star Trek series, "If a civilization does not change, it will only fade into history." I really really hope China can embrace the past glory and govern the future with dignity, honor, justice and compassion.

one day he will be right

People are always predicting the downfall of empires/civilisations. They've been doing it about the US for years and nothing's happened. Given China's huge growth recently, this mad should be ignored for his baseless predictions.

  • PeteMaverickMitchell

Isn't there a quote in romance of the three kingdoms about everything which was once a whole falls apart and everything which has fallen apart unites? China is historically always changing from kingdoms to kingdom back to kingdoms and so on.

Looking at it from the bright side. eventually he is going to get it right, in 1 thousand years. LMAO!

Gordon Chang looks alarmingly like one of those photoshopped Bush/Obama pics.

  • LSD2012

Did Gordon Chang ever predict over 500,000 residents are petitioning White House to withdraw from debt-ridden U.S?
He is just like a gamester who gamble with his credibility for a bingo, while he is too idiotic to know nobody, foreign or Chinese, have forecast right that China has become second largest economy which quadrupled since 2002.
BTW, If Chinese economic growth were really "closer to zero" as Chang states, our prestiged foreign immgrants workers would'v long gone home.

We have petitions all the time for "secede" its not the first time..hope the peasants in China feel the richness and education opportunities, free to travel to any country that America and the West has, not just "satisfied" with basic animal needs..Food, Shelter, and Security.

  • Xzigraz

Calling people names is not an effective way to try to get other people listen to you. Just saying. As for Food, Shelter and Security, these are the most basic need for human being and there are a lot of people around the world doesn't have it, so please don't make fun of it.
