Welcome to the user documentation site for vTools.Meetings. vTools.Meetings is intended to provide support for Section/Chapter meetings as opposed to larger events with many speakers.

Our vision is to a build a Meeting tool to assist local units in organizing their meeting schedule while at the same time providing data to IEEE so that all synergies can be taken advantage of. This effort is part of a larger effort of related projects named vTools overall.

For the vTools.Meetings, the tool captures the meeting information at the beginning and supplies the section with a list of the meetings they have defined along with a rendering of the meeting information and a registration process. The system also, with limited additional information, files the L31 meeting report. In the future, MyIEEE will be able to provide this meeting to section members when they use that tool as well as potentially be able answer a question like "What IEEE Meetings are within 50 miles of x between the dates p and q." These are example integrations but many more have been conceptualized and are being evaluated.

Presently, the vTools.Meetings is in production with many useful features (meeting creation, meeting announcement, registration (with our without Credit Card payments), L31 reporting, VCAL calendar file generation, generation of RSS feeds, integration of meeting lists into websites. The team is pursuing an agile development model with frequent releases with increasing features as well as using the system users to help guide the feature set priority.

The vTools.Meetings project is being developed as a Open Source project with substantial volunteer code creation along with a MGA funded contractor to help keep things moving and provide support for bugs. The site is hosted at IEEE in a production manner. The group used the Google Mail model (with substantially less resources) of staying in an continuously expanding beta until a production release offering was announced at Sections Congress 2008.
