In regards to what happened, an unexpected issue came up while rolling out a change, causing slow loading across the site. Once the exact cause was located, all systems were ultimately reverted and recovered again.

From 4:40pm CEST (7:40am PST/10:40am EST) until 4:53pm CEST (7:53am PST/10:53am EST), we experienced a temporary server issue (resulting in “Yikes” pages), which was caused by an error on our side. More details on what happened exactly here.

Hi all,
Due to some unexpected bumps, we had to perform maintenance on the database that handles dashboard activity, so currently no dashboard or activities data is available over the API. For example, your activity stream on the Next SoundCloud, mobile apps and activity data is not available at this time.
The main dashboard on classic SoundCloud is unavailable, but don’t worry—nothing is lost and tracks will appear again after maintenance.
Your own, incoming and exclusive tracks tabs are still accessible though!
We’re working to bring the Dashboard back up to speed as soon as possible — sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.
We’ll update here and on our @SCSupport Twitter feed as soon as we can.
