The Centro Interuniversitario di Studi e Ricerche Storico-Militari [Interuniversity Center for Historical-Military Research] was set up in Italy in the early 1980's. It has therefore been active for more than twenty years. It is the only academic body, at national level, that deals with Military History.

The Center aims to encourage the development of Military History in all of its aspects: the history of warfare, of societies during wartime, of military institutions, of military since and techniques, of military historiography, military sociology and all other fields of study that promote a deeper understanding of Military History, at both national and international level.
