Course Description

CIW Network Technology Associate is a home study training course that teaches essential networking technologies and skills, including TCP/IP, stable network creation, wireless networking and network troubleshooting. You will learn to use various network components and protocols that enable users to share data quickly and easily. You will explore the different types of transmission media, and will learn how network architecture and topologies provide for efficient and secure communication. In addition, you will learn about the OSI reference model and its relationship to packet creation, and you will compare and contrast the OSI model with the Internet architecture model.

You will study the functions and features of internetworking server types, and learn about the benefits of implementing a Content Management System (CMS). You will also achieve competency in performing basic hardware and operating system maintenance procedures. In addition, you will learn about mobile computing devices and the importance of RFC documents.

You will also learn about the importance of routing, and will explore IP addressing, IP address classes and subnet masks. Finally, you will explore essential network security concepts, Internet-based challenges facing today's users, and methods you can use to secure networks and network transmissions, including authentication, encryption and firewalls.

Course Duration & Support

This is a home study course so you can complete it in your own time and the approximate total study time is 50 hours. Technical support for this course is provided directly by CIW via their student web portal.

Practice Exams

Practice exams are included with this course. They are provided online and are designed to help assess knowledge on specific objectives and reinforce learning. They include Objective Reviews and Quizzes, Reinforcement Tests, Self-Assessment Tests and a time-limited test that consists of a random selection of questions covering all learning objectives. The Practice Exams most closely simulate the experience of the Certification Exam.

Certification Exam

On completion of this course you can apply for the internationally recognised CIW 1D0-61C examination which, if passed, awards the student with the CIW Network Technology Associate Certification.Exams must be sat at one of the 97 registered Prometric testing centres in the UK. You can purchase a Certification Exam Voucher with this course or at a later date. Certification Exam Vouchers are valid for one year from date of purchase.

Pre-Course Requirements

The CIW Network Technology Associate course is designed for beginners but a basic knowledge of computers and the Internet is recommended. Students should also be familiar with the Microsoft Windows operating system before taking this course as it does not provide entry-level computer literacy. Note: This course is not compatible with Apple computers.
