To the Washington University community:

Hurricane Sandy has dealt a devastating blow to a large region of the United States. Many of our current students come from the affected areas, and their families and friends have been at risk and may continue to be so for some time to come. Others in our community also have family and friends in areas that have been devastated by the storm. This was a storm of historic scale and impact and it has brought large scale destruction and disruption of essential energy, communication, and transportation resources. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have been deeply affected. I am confident that everyone in our community joins me expressing our most heartfelt sympathies to those who are affected by this natural disaster.

Whether you are new to the Washington University family, or have been a member of our community for some time, I know you share my pride in the way in which we come together to support one another, particularly in times of crisis. The care and support of one another is what makes our University special, and we all need to remain vigilant to those in our community who will need our care and attention during the next several weeks.

If you or someone you know is experiencing personal difficulties in dealing with the aftermath of this tragedy, I hope you will take advantage of the counseling resources available for students through the Student Health Services on the Danforth and Medical Campuses, and for our faculty and staff through our Employee Assistance Program.

Many people in our country will need our support in the weeks ahead. We have created this page to share helpful resources, as well as updated information about ways members of our community can become directly involved in supporting the relief and recovery efforts. Please consider doing whatever you can to help those in need.
