Molecular Infectious Diseases Group

spacer
The main interest of the group is in understanding the molecular basis of the virulence of the pathogenic bacteria Haemophilus influenzae and Neisseria meningitidis.

These microbes are responsible for a range of serious infections, including meningitis, septicemia and respiratory infections. Using whole genome sequences, classical genetics (including population biology), fine structural analysis and biological assays (in vitro and in vivo) of virulence, we are dissecting the host-microbial interactions to understand the fundamentals of pathogenesis. These studies are providing essential insights into novel approaches to treatment and vaccine development.
