A new program called WaterWorks provides an opportunity for Dartmouth students to learn how to swim and experience the joy of being in water in a friendly and relaxed environment. Dartmouth Figure Skating Team takes Eastern Intercollegiate competition
After winning their sixth National title this spring, the Dartmouth Figure Skating Team emerged victorious at this weekend’s Eastern Intercollegiate figure skating competition at Liberty University. Dartmouth scored 115 points, beating out the University of Delaware with 100 points and Boston University with 95 points.
Eighteen of Dartmouth’s 26 skaters flew to Virginia on Friday, along with their coach and the club sports director. Fourteen other colleges competed in the two-day competition…. Read more »

Pearlman runs Chicago Marathon
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon is not something one just decides to do on a whim. It takes rigorous training, mental well-being and a lot of persistence (a high pain tolerance helps too) — qualities familiar to Ellie Pearlman ’15, who completed the marathon on Sun., Oct. 7th.
This 26.2 mile marathon is one of the five World Marathon Majors, drawing thousands of participants from across the globe. This year 37,455 runners finished the marathon, according to its website.

Rowers from Class of 2013 win the Gardner Cup
On Saturday, September 29, alumni and current undergratuate rowers from the lightweight, heavyweight, and women’s teams joined together to compete as boats based on class year. Members of the class of 2013 won this year’s Gardner Cup. A Dartmouth tradition, the Gardner Cup was revived in 2008 in dedication to former heavyweight coach Peter Gardner.
Set a Watch, Dartmouth: “The Dartmouth Fifty”
“Dear old Dartmouth set a watch, lest the old traditions fail.”
Set your watches to midafternoon on Friday, because for the ‘um’-teenth year in a row, an ambitious group of Dartmouth students will hike 53.6 miles along the Appalachian Trail from Hanover to the Moosilauke Ravine Lodge.
In groups of three and four, “The Dartmouth Fifty” teams have 32 hours to complete the journey, though most finish in less than 24 hours. Why, you might ask, would someone hike for just under 54 miles? Rajiv Raghavan ’13 justifies the trek by saying, “For fun of course. What could be more fun?” His teammate, Joe Chance ’13, says it’s his last year to “fully immerse [himself] in [his] favorite part of Dartmouth – the region around it.” The small groups will stay together throughout the trip, while support stations will ensure that each team stays both physically and mentally healthy. At five different stations along the Appalachian Trail, bands of Dartmouth student volunteers will pull out their weekend flair a day early to keep the atmosphere lighthearted and the participants motivated.
