fifty-one facts about college unions: #4
Frequently “mini-unions” can be found in residence halls, campus libraries, and acade mic buildings; however, the college union remains the one place on campus where all members of the community mingle. Whether individuals live on or off campus, are students or administrators, are from one academic discipline or another, they all congregate at the union.

Help Save a Life – Roll Up Your Sleeve
When will you or a family member need a lifesaving blood transfusion? It’s not a question most people think about. It’s not an answer you know. That is, until the unexpected happens to someone you love and they need blood to survive.
Longtime UNC-Greensboro librarian Mark Schumacher didn’t plan on needing blood when he started donating in 1970. But after years of giving blood, Schumacher experienced a sudden illness in 2004. He was bleeding internally and lost half the blood in his body. During his 11 days in the hospital, Schumacher received 14 pints of blood. Fourteen units of blood from generous, volunteer donors whom Schumacher never met, but he would become eternally grateful.
“There is no way I can thank any of those folks, but I can tell people my story, in hopes that it will inspire them to give blood, not just once at a UNC-Greensboro drive, but as an ongoing activity in their lives,” said Schumacher.
UNCG-Spartans can help save a life—just like Schumacher’s—by rolling up their sleeve on February 12, 2013 at the Elliott University Center Blood Drive. The blood drive will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Cone Ballroom.
