    "You haven't got it!"

    January 14, 2005  |

Version: Outlook 2000 SR-1 Email Security Update SR-1

    Summary

I tried 3 times to download it and it told me three times: The expected version of Microsoft office 2000 was not found on this System. You just plain don't have it.

"Do *NOT* install this patch ... NEVER!!!"

    October 19, 2004  |

Version: Outlook 2000 SR-1 Email Security Update SR-1

    Summary

This is really bad. I made myself a custom Outlook script to block spammers. I installed the patch, now my script does not work anymore and I am flooded with spam ... GREAT! If you install this patch you will have to completely reinstall Outlook in order to get back to a normal world. If you installed Outlook as a part of Office, you will have to reinstall Office entirely.

"Good protection, bad (or no) user interface for new attachment blocks"

    February 6, 2004  |

Version: Outlook 2000 SR-1 Email Security Update SR-1

    Summary

Unlike Outlook Express which can allow users to select "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could be potentially virus", this new update from Microsoft doesn't implement this, unless u have a 3rd party software like 'Outlook Security Addin' (freeware) or the 'Xenos Outlook Security Extension'. Otherwise I am glad my collegues with the patch are guranteed protected from the W32.Mydoom.A@mm virus attacking wildly in our office PC, compared to those without the patch, still attacked by it (and causing Norton to pop up and freak them)
Please implement such features also like the Outlook Express, Microsoft.

    "This sucks!!"

    August 17, 2003  |

Version: Outlook 2000 SR-1 Email Security Update SR-1

    Summary

Loosing your email attachments is bad enough, but not being able to uninstall is typical MS. The fix if you have SP3 does work though.

This patch is more destructive then a virus. Give me a virus anytime!

    "No Respect"

    May 14, 2003  |

Version: Outlook 2000 SR-1 Email Security Update SR-1

    Summary

An example of lazy programming, with Microsoft opting for the quick-fix approach...

I don't know about others but it removed zip attachments as well without any notification... pretty dodgey in my opinion.

    "This Update Disables Email Attachments"

    April 21, 2003  |

Version: Outlook 2000 SR-1 Email Security Update SR-1

    Summary

Once installed, this update disables the ability to receive attachments such as executables (.exe) and web pages (.url). Most of which are legitimate. This is bad if you share these types of files via email like I do. Microsoft admits there is NO built in way to change these settings.
Once you install this security update, you cannot uninstall it separately. You must completely uninstall Outlook 2000 (if you have installed the rest of Office 2000 you must uninstall that as well). However, if you have Outlook 2000 SP-3, you can install a 3rd party program that will allow you to fix the problem called Outlook Permissions Addin from Tour de Force. I tried it and it seems to work well.
