Baltimore Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo celebrates after winning Super Bowl XLVII, 34-31, against the San Francisco 49ers. We didn’t pick sides, especially not when San Francisco is arguably a gay mecca, but we’re sure happy for Ayanbadejo. The outspoken supporter for LGBT equality gave a lot of LGBT fans yet another reason to root for the Ravens if they weren’t already. And we are sure happy for Maryland, where coincidentally marriage equality is newly law. Before this Super Bowl, he was trying to think up ways to use the spotlight to promote equality. A suggestion: check out our interview with Ayanbadejo from last year.

Georgia DMV Says “No” to “GAYGUY”

These three license plates above won’t be placed on any cars in Georgia anytime soon. James Cyrus Gilbert, a resident of Atlanta, is suing the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Driver Services for rejecting three different requests for gay-themed vanity license plates. Gilbert believes the decision is political, telling the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “If I want I could get a tag that said straight man, but because it had gay on it, it’s not available.”

Rumors or Reality Couldn’t Stall Jodie Foster’s Success

Actress Jodie Foster was awarded the Cecil B. DeMille Award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for her “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment,” at the 2013 Golden Globes. In her acceptance speech she finally opened up about her personal life (rather, about whether or not she is gay) - or did she?

Either way, receiving such a prestigious award just proves this cover of The Advocate from April 4, 1995 was right: rumors about an actor’s alleged homosexuality really can’t stall a successful career.

Powershop Ad Depicts Pope Blessing Gay Marriage

An ad for New Zealand power company Powershop, which depicts a marriage of two men being blessed by Pope Benedict XVI, is the latest in the company’s “Same Power, Different Attitude,” campaign. Despite complaints filed with the Advertising Standards Authority stating the ad is offensive to Christians and mocks the Catholic Church, the authority has ruled the image is not likely to cause widespread offense, the New Zealand Herald reports. In a statement on their blog, Powershop says the campaign “is intended to be both thought provoking and satirical.”
