TechCrunch Europe has been shortlisted in the Specialist Digital Publisher category of the prestigious UK-based Association of Online Publishers’ Digital Publishing Awards.
Now in its ninth year, the awards were previously dominated by traditional media companies moving online, but in recent years it’s wisely opened up to the new wave of online publishers.
The Specialist Digital Publisher category is a new award which recognises the success of “smaller media owners” and looks for “Strategic vision; Success against objectives; Enterprise & innovation; and Growth of business.”
Lee Baker, Director of AOP describes the awards: “Our Awards specifically showcase publishers who continually push the boundaries of innovation and commercial success. The Awards are designed to recognise and reward those businesses and individuals in the publishing sector that have made a difference to our industry. In recognition of the technological and advertising talent engaging with the industry, we have expanded the categories to acknowledge their contribution in driving digital media forward.”
I’d like to say thank you to everyone who’s contributed to TechCrunch Europe to date to make this possible. Firstly to Michael Arrington, founder and Editor of TechCrunch and CEO Heather Harde. To my colleague and good buddy Robin Wauters in Brussels. And in particular to TechCrunch Europe Contributing Editor Steve O’Hear, all our contributing bloggers across Europe and our core events team at 2pears, Petra Johansson of events company TwistedTree, and Rassami Hok Ljungberg of communications consultancy rassami.
The AOP Awards will be at the legendary music venue The Roundhouse, Camden, London on Thursday 10th June. Keep your fingers crossed for TechCrunch Europe.
By way of some background: TechCrunch Europe was launched in September 2007. In August 2008 it was awarded the best “Web 2.0 and business blog” in the UK, by the readers of Computer Weekly magazine. In 2009 it was named as one of the Top 10 blogs in the UK. In April 2010 TechCrunch Europe was named as one of Britain’s Top 100 “digital power-brokers” by Wired UK magazine.

The winners have now been announced.
I was delighted to hear that Global Radio won the AOP Commercial Partnership 2010 award, for their Xbox Lips campaign. I worked on the project, and we had great fun with it.
