WRF Users and Websites

The current WRF (Weather Research and Forecasting Model) software framework (WSF) supports two dynamical solvers: the Advanced Research WRF (ARW, Users' page) developed and maintained by the Mesoscale and Microscale Meteorology Division of NCAR, and the nonhydrostatic Mesoscale Model (NMM, Users' page) developed by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction with user support provided by the Developmental Testbed Center.

WRF Code Repository and Release Administration

NCAR is responsible for the support of WRF code to the user community and for the administration of the code repository and code releases. This encompasses responsibility for maintaining the code through oversight of the processes for source code modification, source code testing, and repository upkeep. It also includes responsibility for managing the preparation and issuance of WRF code releases.

To guide these support activities and to inform the community of WRF users and contributors, the following document, WRF Code Repository and Release Administration, describes the procedures and policies involved. This document supplements the WRF Code Management and Support document in terms of providing details on repository maintenance
and release oversight.

Prospective contributors of code to the WRF system or those seeking to have their codes included in future releases should review the policies and procedures described. WRF code repository and release management is primarily handled by the Developers’ Committee and the Release Committee, respectively. The Developers’ Committee oversees additions to, and maintenance of, the repository, while the Release Committee oversees the process of major new code issuance to the user community. For information on contacting these committees, write to wrfhelp.

Information for Code Contributors

Developers seeking to add code to WRF should consult Information for Code Contributors. This document summarizes the procedures and policies regarding the contribution of code to the WRF system.
