SapphicErotica is a site featuring, naturally enough, a lot of amateur lesbian action. (A learned aside: Sapphos was a Greek poet who lived on the island of Lesbos--get it?--and wrote some girl-girl poetry around the sixth century BC.)

The number of really good amateur sites hitting the Internet now, featuring high quality photography (defining high quality in terms of the technical basics like size, clarity, lighting, etc., not necessarily referring to artistic merit), lots of video, and exclusive models (albeit sometimes not the best looking models), is enough to make a porn lovers heart break with joy. If these sites are any indication of the future of porn on the Internet, count your blessings. And the best is probably yet to come.

SapphicErotica is run by a personable fellow named "Bailey" who does a lot of his own work, supplemented by the best licensed material he can get. The licensed material is very good, and a lot of it we hadn't seen before (Bailey prefers amateurs to pornstars). Also in addition to the exclusive stuff is a lesbian video feed ("Lesbian Beauties"), and a link to a pay-per-view service (Greywood Videos).

The site (which is less than a year old) is moving toward more exclusive material. At the time of our visit it was featuring over 26,000 pics, 6,000 of which were exclusive, and 11 hours of video, 8 of which are exclusive. Updates are occurring every other day. In terms of specifics, Bailey gives an honest breakdown:

"At least one of the updates each week is a long (usually 150-200+) pictures exclusive picture series shot either by myself or one of my photographers with an accompanying video (usually 15-30 minutes). The other updates are licensed content.

I try to provide the best quality I can given a reasonable file size. I want the site to be satisfying to those with broadband but also useable by those with dial-up. The pictures are generally 1024x768 or larger, but some of the licensed ones are smaller. I optimize the site for 1280x1024 resolution."

This guy has serious standards when it comes to quality. The galleries can all be downloaded in zip files, which is helpful given how large (both in terms of pic size and number of pics) they are. A general category index is all the navigation. Site support and responsiveness seemed very good and Bailey actively solicits feedback. Very professional.

As for content: This is lesbian love (there are a few solo sets of the exclusive girls, but they are "extras"). The models are mostly pretty young, though there was a nice older woman/younger girl set recently added when we dropped in. They kiss a lot, go down on each other a lot, and use a wide variety of toys. One thing we have to give Bailey credit for is how well he does lesbian kissing. The models really lock lips, whether kissing on the mouth or performing oral. They seem almost hungry for each other. That passion makes a lot of the sets ignite. In addition, there is some attempt being made to give the encounters a narrative context that helps with the fantasy. This doesn't occur all the time, nor should it, but it does show some imagination, and gets us away from those awful "behind-the-scenes" video shoots that are a staple of so many studio sites. The videos also seem to be without a lot of editing, but in our opinion a lot of that is overdone anyway.

Now, to be just a bit critical:

We love a simple site design, but thought there could have been a little more done here. The layout is just functional without being attractive, and has the odd glitch. The videos come in five different formats. The main members page could be a general welcome area with links to different areas rather than lead through so much basic support info. The thumbnailing and gallery/video descriptions are terrific, in fact some of the best we've seen (Bailey breaks down every scene, and even indicates his personal favourite pics and what to look for), but instead of a model index, for example, there is only a note explaining how to do a search for a given name on a page using the Windows Ctrl+F function. As the site grows, this should be improved.

The sex itself is hot, but never what we would call nasty. The site is called "SapphicErotica", not "Dirty Dyke Whores." This seems to be an expression of Bailey's own vision of lesbian porn, and we don't knock it. Some experimentation with the dark side, however, might be fun. Describing one video shoot, for example, he says the models "like to talk dirty and use toys in real life. I asked them to tone it down."

Tone it down? Heavens forefend! We'd be asking them to turn it up! What's wrong with a little trash talk anyway? At least, in that video, they get really, really wet.

Our summary judgment is very positive. This site has a lot of content, quite a bit that is exclusive and the rest well selected. Technical standards are very high. Updates occur every other day, with "one long, kickass exclusive or original series with video every week". Video seems to be excellent, and gets outside the "behind-the-scenes" studio box. If you have a lesbian fetish we recommend it very highly.
