If you plan a trip to New York, and are at all interested in modern art or architecture, the Guggenheim is a must-see.   This magnificent building (by Frank Lloyd Wright)  feels as though it has a life of its own.  As you enter the building into the main floor, you will find an entryway packed with people in line to buy tickets.  Come early (they open at 10 am) as this line is massive and you can expect to wait at least a half hour.  Looking up from the bottom floor, you see a circular interior that widens as it goes up, with a glass-domed ceiling to cap it off. Once you pay for your ticket, an interior spiral ramp (stairwell) invites you to begin your walk upward.  The stairwell widens as you climb up, and art decorates the wall continuously on your climb, with several main levels of  artwork.  The museum-owned art (Thannhauser Collection) contains an amazing collection of  Impressionism pieces,  with artists such as Cezanne, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, and Picasso! This collection alone is worth the visit.   There will also be featured/visiting exhibitions.

The museum is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, right across the street from Central Park, so dress comfortably and bring your walking shoes, and you can take a beautiful walk around Jacqueline Kennedy Lake after your tour of the museum.

Note that photography is not allowed in the museum, but you might want your camera for shots of Central Park and the exterior of the Guggeenheim from across the street.

I cannot speak to parking, since we took a cab to the museum.

I had such high hopes for the Guggenheim but it failed me miserably. Let me preface this review with the following: I think I chose a horrible day to visit this museum as the ramps were closed for installation and only about 3 annexes were open. Honestly it was truly underwhelming. I visit a lot of museums and would like to think I have an appreciation of most all art but the art at the Guggenheim just didn't do it for me.

Although the building itself is really unique, the annexes are cramped and feel crowded no matter how many people are there. The restrooms also really put me off as well, they are one stall broom closets pretty much that were filthy. I felt like I was using a gas station restroom!

I really wish I could have experienced the spiral ramp, maybe another time if I make it back. Compared to the other fantastic museums in New York the Guggenheim just falls a little flat.
