Speaking Between The Lines

February 9, 2012

That whole thing that I was talking about the other day, about not having any words, or not enough words, or not enough breath or breathing space for words, or something to that effect? That doesn’t apply to video of me using my words, and especially not to video of me using my words last summer (when the interview with me was shot) and this past December (when the images – of our loft, of us in our loft, of Jasper climbing a bookshelf to get a woodsaw – don’t ask – in our loft – were shot). The background story on the video, you can find over at Bad Mother Confidential. The foreground story is, I still believe in blogging – and mom blogging – in exactly the ways that I describe in this video. And I am sometimes so moved by this whole – what’s the word? – sisterhood of motherhood / community / empowerment / connection / change the world thing that it makes me cry, as I do in this video.

It’s just that right now I’m so tired, so overwhelmed, so busy, so distracted, so in need of breathing space that I’m not walking that talk very well. But I will, again.

Soon.

April 15, 2011

A few weeks ago at SXSW in Austin, Texas, the lovely Karen Walrond sat me down and asked me a few questions about heartbreak. Not about the sad and the terrible and the woe-is-me of heartbreak, but about the beauty of heartbreak. And it was a wonderful and, I think, important conversation, because there is [...]
