About me
I am a research scientist at Intel Labs.
I received my Ph.D. degree from the Department of Computer Science at Dartmouth College. My Ph.D. advisors are Prof. Andrew T. Campbell and Prof. Tanzeem Choudhury. As part of my doctoral work, I created the SoundSense system, which is the first ubiquitous sound classification system for smart phones. My work on SoundSense, Jigsaw, and StressSense laid the foundation of the mobile health monitoring application, BeWell. I hold bachelor and master degrees in Computer Science from Tianjin University, Tianjin, China.
I have been TPC member of Nokia Mobile Data Challenge (MDC) and the MobiSense 2011.
My Research
Area: mobile ubiquitous computing, context awareness, human behavior modeling, social computing, and wireless sensor network
I am an experimental computer scientist working on people-centric sensing systems and applications. I work on developing machine learning techniques and mobile systems that can reason about human activities, social interactions and context in everyday environments. My recent research focuses on developing mobile inference system for smart phones, which allow the phone to observe, understand, and extract human behavioral information from sensor data collected from individual users or crowdsourced from social networks. I built prototype mobile applications based on a variety of mobile platforms (e.g., Apple iPhone, Nokia N95/N900, Google Android). I have experience across various domains of mobile sensing systems including: embedded sensors, system architecture, power management, big data analysis, mobile social computing, and human behavior inference. Results from my research have been published in a number of top conferences including MobiSys, Ubicomp, Pervasive, Sensys, and AAAI.
My h-index is 13 according to Google Scholar.
