Darsh T. Wasan Lecture | October 26, 2011
Alice P. Gast, a renowned leader in higher education and a distinguished researcher in the study of surface and interfacial phenomena, delivers the 2011 Darsh T. Wasan Lecture. Gast was appointed the 13th president of Lehigh University in 2006 and is the co-author of Physical Chemistry of Surfaces, a classic textbook on colloid and surface phenomena. Kilpatrick Lecture | September 23, 2011
The IIT Department of Chemistry welcomed Harvard University Department of Chemistry's Woodford L. and Ann A. Flowers University Professor George Whitesides to deliver the 2011 Kilpatrick Lecture. A pioneer in fundamental research who pushes the bounds of interdisciplinary collaboration to establish new fields in science and develop them toward practical applications with the potential to change the everyday world in which we live, Whitesides is the founder of Diagnostics for All, a nonprofit enterprise to provide low-cost, easy-to-use, postage-stamp-sized disagnostics to be used onsite in developing countries. Darsh T. Wasan Lecture | October 13, 2010
Susan Solomon (CHE '77) presents the 2010 Darsh T. Wasan Lecture, "A Tale for Our Times: Something for Everyone About Climate Change and the Reasons for Climate Gridlock."Solomon is a senior scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Boulder, Colorado. She received her bachelor's degree in chemistry from IIT in 1977 and her Ph.D. from UC-Berkeley in 1981. She is widely recognized as one of the leaders in the field of atmospheric science and is well known for having pioneered the theory explaining why the ozone hole occurs in Antarctica, as well as having obtained some of the first chemical measurements that helped to establish the chlorofluorocarbons as its cause.
