Welcome to the Division of Science, Technology and Innovation
(NYSTAR)

The 2011-12 State Budget merged NYSTAR into Empire State Development and created a new Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR). The merger recognized the integral role of innovation to economic growth in the state.

The mission of NYSTAR is to help new and existing businesses become more competitive through the use of
innovative technologies.  A key part of the strategy for doing this has been to strengthen the research and
technology capabilities of our colleges and universities to help create the intellectual capacity which drives high tech
growth.   NYSTAR's programs emphasize the importance of working with industry to leverage our technology
strengths to produce new products and, therein, new and expanded jobs in the state.

NYSTAR is responsible for assuring that its programs result in increased technology partnerships throughout the
state. These programs include:

  • Centers of Excellence
  • Centers for Advanced Technology
  • Regional Technology Development Centers
  • High Performance Computing Program

These programs have helped build areas of technology expertise which may be able to assist your business.
