- Bio:
In 2011, Khalil Gibran Muhammad faced a daunting task in succeeding Howard Dodson Jr., who led the venerable Schomburg Center for more than 25 years. But it didn't take long for Muhammad to make a mark in New York City and beyond, speaking out against the city's stop-and-frisk policy and diving into the Trayvon Martin case as well. Both topics fall in his area of expertise -- the racial politics of criminal law -- which is the focus of the former Indiana University professor's 2010 book, The Condemnation of Blackness: Race, Crime, and the Making of Modern Urban America.
