Scope and Features
The 10-month project is rebuilding the Aquarium's signature central exhibit—the Giant Ocean Tank, which is already considered to be one of the most complex and sophisticated aquatic exhibits in the world. But that's just part of the project.

Penguins on Vacation
Most of the penguins that normally live at the Aquarium have been moved to an off-site holding facility. The smallest penguin species is still on exhibit at the Aquarium. You can visit the little blue penguins in a temporary exhibit out the back doors.

There are more than 800 species on exhibit, and each one is worth a closer look. We're challenging visitors to learn more about these ten species when they visit the Aquarium during our renovation project. Meet them all.
Five Years of Progress
We're creating a new Aquarium experience on Central Wharf. This $17 million project is the culmination of a Mission Blue capital campaign initiated in 2007 to build a series of new exhibits and facilities.
