Ptl. Chris Colaner Lauded for Helping
the Needy

On December 15, 2007 the Freehold Borough PBA held their annual Santa Train event.  What made this one special was the fact that it was the tenth anniversary of the creation of the Santa Train.

It was 1997 when the Freehold Borough Police Department first held the Santa Train.  Back then it was just a couple of officers and a view families.  Today, it has evolved into a major holiday event with hundreds of families, every available officer and some amazing holiday spirit.

While the PBA sponsors the event, the creator and organizer for all ten years is Police Officer Chris Colaner.  Chris was honored this year at the annual Christmas party for his work on the Santa Train as well as some of his other accomplishments.

Chris's rsum includes clothing drives that, to date, have procured more than 500 winter coats for our most needing citizens.

Officer Chris has come to be known as kind of an unofficial employment agency.  Through his many contacts, Chris has gotten jobs for dozens of people from and about Freehold.

Chris recently orchestrated the department's first ever anonymous tip line.  Tip lines are effective tools in combating crime as they allow citizens to call and leave information without formally involving themselves.

Finally, Chris was the architect of the CARE project.  CARE is an acronym for Cops and Residents Enforcement Zone.  Several years ago, Chris, working with members of the community, selected a troubled intersection of Lloyd Street to receive intense police presence combined with community awareness.  Together, Chris and the community helped reduce both violent and property crime.  The CARE sign is still there to this day.

Thank you Ptl. Chris Colaner for all your work with the community.
