Note: It's important that you back up your files. If you reinstall Joli OS, your apps will be synchronized but you should back up your documents.

The process to uninstall Joli OS depends on which method you used to install it:

  1. If you installed Joli OS on a Windows machine using the Joli OS Windows Installer, all you have to do is uninstall Joli OS Express. Go to Case 1: How do I uninstall Joli OS Express?
  2. If you made Joli OS your only operating system, you need to delete and replace the Joli OS partition on your hard drive. Go to Case2: How do I delete and replace the Joli OS partition on my hard drive?

Case 1: How do I uninstall Joli OS Express?

1 - Select Windows at boot.
2 - Once Windows is launched, go to ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Programs’ > ‘Programs and features’. Select ‘Jolicloud’ to uninstall it.

1. Select Windows at boot.

Joli OS has now been uninstalled from your device.

Case 2: How do I delete and replace the Joli OS partition on my hard drive?

The Jolicloud USB key installs a real partition on your hard drive. You can delete and replace this partition during the install process of your new operating system.

Note: It is possible that you partitioned your hard drive manually to allow your device to run Joli OS alongside Windows or another operating system.

Delete Joli OS partitions

If your other operating system is Linux-based, you may have access to a software called GParted to delete Joli OS partitions. You should be able to access GParted by pressing Alt + F2 and type "GParted" (without the quotes).

If your other operating system is Windows, you can use the Computer Management functionality:

  1. Boot Windows
  2. Log in to an account with administrative privileges
  3. Right-click on My Computer and click Manage
  4. Choose Disk Management listed under Storage and you will see all of your partitions listed there
  5. Delete the partitions, making sure you delete the correct ones (Joli OS partitions usually don't have a file system listed with them if Windows doesn’t recognize it, but you should be able to identify them by size or partition number)

Restore the boot menu

GRUB, which allows you to choose the operating system you want to use at boot time has now been deleted, and you need to restore the ability to boot into Windows.

You would now need to boot from the Windows CD/DVD (you can use a USB CD/DVD player) to restore the Master Boot Record. You can also use other Live CDs like HBCD just in case you don't have Windows installation media handy. Here are the steps:

1. Boot from Windows CD/DVD and choose 'Repair' when it shows up

2. Choose Command Prompt on the next screen and run the following two commands:

  • bootrec /fixmbr
  • bootrec /fixboot

Windows XP users need to run the recovery console from Windows XP CD and then type fixmbr when at the command prompt.

Reclaim free space

Restart and remove the previous CD.

You should now be able to boot into Windows. Once there, you can reclaim the free unpartitioned space which was previously used by Joli OS:

  1. Start up the Disk Management utility as before
  2. Right-click on the unparitioned space, choose new partition or new logical drive
  3. Specify the size and parameters according to your needs.

Free space should now be accessible from My Computer as a normal partition.
