- Gatecrash is the second set in the Return to Ravnica block. It is the 60th Magic expansion and was released on February 1, 2013. Gatecrash is a large expansion set in size but has 25 less cards then Return to Ravnica as it has no basic lands. Booster packs of Gatecrash contain basic lands from Return to Ravnica.
- Like its preceding expansion set, Return to Ravnica, Gatecrash is set upon city-plane of Ravnica. Thematically and mechanically, Gatecrash features the Boros Legion, House Dimir, Gruul Clans, Orzhov Syndicate, and Simic Combine. As the Izzet League continue their mad research, they continue to draw the attentions of the other guilds, and the paranoia and violence has given rise to the guildless, the radical movement known as the Gateless.
- Gatecrash introduces the ability words Battalion and Bloodrush as the mechanics for the Boros Legion and Gruul Clans, respectively, and the keywords Cipher, Evolve, and Extort as the mechanics for House Dimir, Simic Combine, and Orzhov Syndicate.
