    Professor Rekdal has won UNT's Rilke prize in poetry for her book "Animal Eye"

  • Katharine Coles & Lance Olsen Named 2012 Guggenheim Fellows

    Professors Coles and Olsen have been awarded fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation

  • PhD candidates Lisa Coutley and Meg Day awarded NEA fellowships

    The National Endowment for the Arts received more than 2800 applications in this round. Lisa and Meg were among an elite group of just 40 applicants to be awarded the fellowship.

  • Lance Olsen awarded the Mary Ellen van der Heyden Berlin Prize in Fiction

    University of Utah College of Humanities' Professor Lance Olsen has been invited to live and write at the Berlin Academy from Dec. 2012 to June 2013 as the Mary Ellen van der Heyden Berlin Prize in Fiction Fellow. This prestigious recognition comes shortly after Olsen was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship.

About the Department


The English Department invites all students interested in expanding their intellectual horizons and honing their practical skills in reading and writing to stop by our offices at 3500 LNCO and speak about the major with our undergraduate advisor, Janet Hough. You can also learn about the superb honors program in English, or our Interdisciplinary Minor in British Studies. The Gordon B. Hinckley Endowment for British Studies was established to fund development of an innovative first-rate undergraduate curriculum for university students. It is named in honor of Gordon B. Hinckley, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a distinguished alumnus of the College of Humanities (Bachelor of Arts in English 1932).
