About Summon

Summon is a single interface to the Classic Catalog and other resources in the Syracuse University Library collection.  The software is licensed from Serials Solutions and provides a single gateway to the Library’s extensive collection of print and electronic resources.

Who can use Summon?

All users are able to access and search the Summon interface however, only Syracuse University-affiliated patrons will have access to licensed resources.  These resources require authentication using your SU NetID and password.

What is in Summon?

Summon searches most of the journal, magazine, and newspaper resources available through Library databases, as well as the Classic Catalog, the Syracuse University Digital Collections, and the SUrface repository.  Other types of materials such as dissertations and theses, and library research guides are also included. Summon also searches the full-text content of the SU Library’s e-book collections and Google Books.

What is not in Summon?

While it does contain information from most of the library’s databases, there is some information that is not included in Summon.  Specialized or comprehensive research should be done in the Library’s subject-specific databases and using the library’s Classic Catalog.  For information about which databases are best for your subject area, consult a Subject Guide, or contact a Subject Librarian.
