About the Syracuse University Digital Library

Welcome to the Syracuse University Library Digital Collections web site, which provides digital collections from Syracuse University Library (SUL), including the Special Collections Research Center and others that have participated in collaborative projects with SUL.We invite you to browse the collections or search a specific collection for keywords or phrases in title, subject, description, or other available fields. Please refer to the Help link for details on searching or AskUs to consult a library staff member for assistance.

Rights and Permissions

Syracuse University Digital Library (SUDL) collections are comprised of a variety of types of material with differing copyright statuses. These materials are provided for personal research or educational use only. It is the user's responsibility to determine and satisfy copyright or other use restrictions before publishing, reproducing, transmitting or otherwise distributing materials from Library digital collections. Each digital collection will include a rights statement specific to its content to enable users and library staff to easily determine appropriate use of the content. Those wishing to publish or distribute material from these collections should send permission requests to the contact address listed in the collection. The Library will make permission decisions on a case-by-case basis and may charge a usage fee, depending on the type of proposed use.

Remote Access to Restricted Collections

Access to collections containing licensed or copyrighted material is restricted and may require authentication. Anyone using a campus library or workstation may access these resources on site. However, only currently enrolled Syracuse University students, faculty, and staff are eligible to access licensed resources from off-campus locations.

SU's Virtual Private Network (VPN) enables students, faculty, and staff to access the University network from off-campus locations or through AirOrange.VPN software can be downloaded at no charge for all SU students, faculty, and staff using computers with the Windows XP operating system. Instructions for downloading and installing VPN are available on the VPN Support web site.
