Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide Human Rights organization of more than 1.1 million members. Eugene's Amnesty Group 384 is a U.S. chapter of AI that was restarted in the Spring of 2003 by a group of concerned and highly motivated citizens. To date we have hosted or co-hosted talks by Father Roy Bourgeois, M.M. (SOA Watch) & Bert Sacks (Aid to Iraqi children).

At meetings we write letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience, discuss and give out letter writing materials on Amnesty 'actions' on the behalf of various prisoner and disappearance cases. We are active in bringing speakers and workshop leaders to Eugene and are collaborating with other Eugene peace groups in these activites. We encourage the current membership of Amnesty (now numbering over 800 in Eugene) to join with us in fellowship and support to help build a world of compassion and understanding based on the United Nations declaration of Universal Human Rights. We are always looking for new members and you are warmly invited to attend a meeting.

When you join the Eugene chapter you will receive a monthly newsletter via email. This will tell you about the upcoming meeting, and will include an Urgent Action - a case requiring immediate attention. If you can't come to the meeting(s), you can still write a letter on behalf of the person profiled in the Urgent Action. In addition, you will recieve via email notices of upcoming events. You will NOT recieve solicitations from us or other vendors for donations (except for a notice in the newsletter), nor for any commercial product, political or religious group.

- Amnesty International (AI) seeks the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience. A prisoner of conscience (POC) is a person imprisoned because of his or her beliefs, color, sex, ethnic origin or language who has neither used nor advocated violence.
- AI advocates fair and prompt trials for all political prisoners.
- AI opposes torture and executions in all cases.
